A host troop is still needed for the annual Bending Bayous Community Bridging event this April 23, 3-5pm.
This is a wonderful, girl-led, multi-troop / multi-level event where girls bridge to their next level of Girl Scouting and are honored for their achievements. It really is a powerful event for the girls and their families. However, we need to identify a troop that is willing to plan and host the event in order for it to happen this year.

Last year the event was co-hosted by 3rd and 4th grade troops from St. Anne Catholic School. They loved seeing their decorations and theme ideas come to fruition - and of course loved being on the microphone!

To quote Elizabeth Montz, whose 3rd graders hosted our community rollerskating event in January:
Our 3rd grade Brownie troop loved hosting the Bending Bayous skating party! The girls were thrilled to be assigned to different committees and felt very grown up carrying out their duties before and during the party. The girls also loved having the chance to mingle with other girls from the community.

From a leader's perspective, it was fairly easy to host. We would definitely volunteer again for another Bending Bayous event.

Although we have not attended a community bridging ceremony yet, it seems like a great way to get girls involved in various leadership roles! From a leader's point of view, it seems like a "no-brainer" since a lot of the event has been pre-planned, and there is no money involved, which simplifies things enormously!

Host troop duties:
  • choose the event theme
  • speak on the microphone to emcee the event
  • provide decorations and refreshments
  • communicate with bridging troops
  • all costs reimbursed - hosting will not cost you $
Bending Bayous Community provides:
  • location already reserved: St. Anne Parish Center, Sunday April 23
  • how-to-host guidelines, including a timeline, budget, example communications, and a talking script for the emcees
  • funding
  • guidance and support from recent hosts :)
