Scott Kvandal, Su Refugio's founder, just returned from the campus in Paraguay. He was there to inspect two new residential children’s homes that the Lord is building and to check in with our team that cares for all of the “orphans” that God has entrusted to this ministry to love and care for. He brought with him a copy of David Platt’s new book Something Needs to Change. Upon finishing the book he said, “I highly recommend it, but caution you that reading it is not risk free. Reading it may break you in ways that you did not expect nor desire. It broke me when I thought I could not be broken further.”

In his book, Platt  takes you along on a weeklong trek in the Himalayas, when he was rocked to the core by the extent of human need causing him to ask foundational questions like “Is Jesus really the hope of the world after all?” One day, Platt picked up his Bible and read the three stories in Luke 15.  A similar theme of finding/saving THE ONE is common throughout. THE ONE sheep, THE ONE coin, THE ONE son. In each story, THE ONE is first lost and then is found.  In each story we see the Creator of the world is focused on THE ONE. He is intentional about drawing rescuing the brokenhearted.

Ministering in three different countries in South America with countless needs can be overwhelming. Scott says, “I have never taken a journey through the Himalayas. But, God chose to lead me on a journey through Paraguay, Argentina and Peru to witness the needs of orphans and widows. I have witnessed the depravity of man and its impact on children. I have witnessed so many stories that I wish I could delete from my memory. Many have asked me, 'How can you respond to such a great need?'  My answer is simple, 'I can’t! But, what I can do is choose to focus on ONE.'"
Would you join us in rescuing orphans and widows? Can you rescue just ONE?
