"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved... who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Tim. 2:15
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth."
2 Timothy 2:15
Every Saturday at 10:00 am more than 100 children gather at the Su Refugio Campus in Tobatí, Paraguay to experience our Children's Care Center. It is a place of refuge, His Refuge, from the surrounding poverty and a day that God uses to minister to many needs of the mind, body, and soul. First, we address the physical needs of movement and a warm meal. We compliment this with hygiene instruction and taking care of God's creation- our bodies. Academic lessons and music instruction are also a great benefit to all of the children and the mind is nourished richly. But the greatest gift we share each week is the truth of God's Word- a feast for the soul!
We offer this by incorporating OANSA into our day. In the U.S., this program is known by the name "AWANA" and it stands for Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed! “Awana Clubs International” is a Christian organization that has been dedicated since 1950 to help the local church in several ways. The program is aimed at reaching children and young people with the gospel and preparing them to serve the Lord. They not only attract children and young people to lead them to Christ, but also their families. And we have found this to be true in Paraguay and here on our campus at Su Refugio.
OANSA time begins with fun and physical activity. The excess energy of youth can be given free course in a constructive way through games specially designed for each age. Most games are made around a large circle on the ground. The competition is both individual and team.
After game time, children settle into instruction in the Word of God. The club is divided into smaller groups, each supervised by a leader. Children progress through manuals while the leader works with each of them. Each time a learning level is exceeded, the child receives tangible encouragement and recognition. The memorization of Bible verses and practical concepts are the predominant activities during this time. Discipleship is a natural outgrowth of this special time.
Finally, the club meets to listen to a biblical message adapted especially to their age, to tell and share testimonies with their peers. During this time, the child hears about the gospel of Christ and begins to mature in his or her own spiritual life. As hearts respond each week, children are not ashamed of the Word of God and they learn to rightly handle His truth!
Oh, Father, we pray this time of OANSA is a sweet aroma to You each week! As You hear the laughter during games, the singing during worship, the recitation of Your Word on the lips of every child, and the gospel message pouring forth each week, may You be exalted in every home in Tobati and in all of Paraguay! YOU are worthy!
