“Be still and know that I am God.”

I am overwhelmed with grief.

Anger stirs beneath the surface.

Reason gropes for answers that bring no satisfaction or contentment.

Self-control is indistinguishable from coping strategies.

The vessel is empty and can only wait in stillness so as not to miss a drop of moisture seeking its opening.

And then. God is known. There is nothing left. And now it can begin. Hope pours forth. Grief turns to joy. Anger turns to compassion. Peace surpasses understanding. Grace-filled obedience expands the opening.

-LHB

Dear Ones,

I pray that stillness opens you to the revealing of God who loves you and calls you into a new life. Whether we embrace or fight the stillness, may God find our hearts ready as a new vessel open for filling with new Spirit. Come Lord Jesus, fill us. Amen.

SUMMER SERMON SERIES
"Family Reunion"

In the trials of one family, we find hope for our own.

Summer is a time for family reunions. For some of us, family reunions are fun and fulfilling. For others of us, they are uncomfortable or even painful. We all have some dysfunction in our families. We all have stories that we’d rather not tell. In the stories of Genesis, we discover God’s chosen family – those first generations of Israel – had struggles, secrets, sibling rivalries, and even threats of murder. As we explore these rich and ancient stories, we see how God works through and in spite of family dysfunction to bring about God’s purposes for the world, and we find hope for God’s presence and movement in our own families.

You can watch our live-streamed services on Facebook at 8:30 or 11:00 am or you can watch it on our website once it has been uploaded.

CHANGING THE WORLD
The Methodist Children's Home

This month's Changing the World offering will go to The Methodist Children's Home. Founded in 1890, Methodist Children’s Home serves children and youth through residential programs on the Waco campus and MCH Boys Ranch, and through transition services, foster care and a variety of community based programs throughout Texas. Methodist Children’s Home offers hope to children, youth and families through a nurturing, Christian community.

PROJECT TRANSFORMATION

We have 23 children currently signed up for Summer 2020! We held our first distribution day on Thursday, June 4th. We passed out books, craft supplies, and food. Thank you to everyone who donated supplies, including our partner churches, First UMC Round Rock and Rockbridge UMC. Children will start their online and interactive instruction June 8th.

We have the capacity to serve even more children and families that need food and literacy support this summer!

If you know any children who want to sign up, use the link below. Scroll down to Austin and pick Leander UMC. Registration is available in Spanish or English.

Families can choose which aspects of the program to participate in:
  • Food
  • Books and Supplies
  • Self Guided On-line Camp
  • Interactive On-line Camp

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2020
June 29-July 3

We are offering a virtual Vacation Bible School experience that you can do at home. Interactive activities will be offered online and parents will be able to pick up activity packets, called Jet Packs to take home for their children.Jet Packs will have all the supplies you need in order to experience VBS at home. Music, skits, stories, a daily greeting, and benediction will be posted on our website.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

We need volunteers to pack and hand out supplies at our drive-through pickup in the parking lot on Friday, June 26th from  5:00 – 7:00 pm and Saturday, June 27th 10:00 am-noon.

We also need volunteers to be Star Guides. Star Guides connect with one to three families each day of VBS week to answer questions, see how things are going, and generally just check in to have a human connection with the church. Each Star Guide will coordinate with the family on how this will happen – phone, Facetime, or Zoom -  whatever works best. Star Guides must have completed the Safe Gatherings training.
