Greetings!

It's happening! Daylight hours are becoming longer. It is refreshing to leave the office and actually walk out into the light. With the extra sunlight comes a little happiness mood boost.

If you are anything like my puppers or husband they have been anxiously awaiting this weather break. One because he knows he gets extra walks and the other because it means the beginning of golf season.

This is the month of the Spring Equinox - March 20th  this year. That's the day when the hours of daylight and hours of darkness are equal, and the days that follow (in the Northern Hemisphere) will have increasingly more daylight than darkness.

Spring Forward Reminder!
MARCH 13th MOVE CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR

One of the big March celebrations in Chicagoland is St. Patrick's Day, observed by (among other things) wearing, and dying the Chicago River, green. Interestingly, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, green is the color associated with the Liver organ system which is also related to the season of Spring. Check out the blog article below to learn about eating for for the season of Spring.

We are excited to introduce two talented acupuncturists who are now seeing patients at CCHW's South Loop location.

New Resident Acupuncturist and Herbal Specialist
Ivan Zavala is joining Ja'Nelle Jefferson as a Resident Acupuncturist and Herbal Specialist at CCHW. Ivan is board-certified in acupuncture and herbal medicine, and a Diplomate of Canonical Chinese Medicine. In addition to seeing patients, Ivan is a professor of Chinese medical theory and diagnostics, currently teaching Diagnostic Foundations at Pacific College of Health Science. Ivan's specialty is “knotty diseases,” those often-systemic conditions where all signs and symptoms are conflicting yet can be explained and often alleviated through Chinese medicine.

Ivan is available to see CCHW patients in the South Loop on Mondays (1:30-7:30 pm) and Wednesdays (2:00-7:30 pm).

New Affiliated Practitioner
Alexia C. Croteau-Chonka, of And So It Begins LLC, is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine specializing in inclusive and patient-empowered care as part of a trauma-informed approach. Dr. Croteau-Chonka focuses on pain management, disability needs and accessibility, chronic conditions, and stress relief. It’s not enough to focus on just your symptoms; there has to be space in the treatment room for what matters to you.

Visit the And So It Begins website to learn more about Dr. Croteau-Chonka and to make an appointment.

Best Wishes & Good Health,
Teri Calandra, L.Ac.
