 PRESIDENT'S THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A message from Paul Harris to the 1933 RI convention in Boston:

" Life is more than steels ,motors and rails ,more  than business. Business is a means to an end, not the end. The sweetest words
of tongue or pen are not stocks ,bonds ,interest and dividends; the sweetest words of tongue or pen are mother, father, wife, son ,daughter, friends. They stand for life's imperishables ."

DISTRICT GOVERNORS VISIT

President Damian was delighted to introduce and welcome DG Dick Wilson and Liz to our meeting tonight. He also welcomed AG for Group 7 Don Will from RC Eastwood along with many partners and  Tieneke Inkenharg who is always welcome.
Many members arriving tonight were almost scared by the 2 welcoming "surgeons"; Dr Wacka Richards and Dr Dean Fleming. Most declined surgery!!!!!!

DG Dick Wilson's address was from the heart; his deep and enduring passion for Rotary was very evident.
Dick graduated in  Medicine from Adelaide University in 1966,married Liz in 1968 and begun his professional life as a rural GP in Strathalbyn in 1973. He now practices in Stirling with special interests in mental health and aviation medicine.
Dick thanked Damian for his warm welcome and commended him on the close friendship they have shared at District level for a number of years.
He thanked our club for providing 3 DGs; Kevin Parkinson, John Thomas, and Bob Northcote . Now all sadly deceased their legacy is not forgotten.
Dick spoke of the many things he loves about Rotary.
*The fun and fellowship
* The opportunity to meet people from a wide diversity of vocations and backgrounds
* The many wonderful Rotary programs
* Getting involved fosters real enjoyment
* The amazing teamwork at many levels that is so effective at reaching goals.

Rotary's public image is the area where more work needs to be done. He gave an example of  the National Heart Foundation . They do wonderful work and have a very high level of public awareness. Our own Rotary organizations like ARHF,ROMAC etc do not have that profile yet also do amazing work. We need to work harder to elevate this profile.
Dick reminded us to mark our diaries for the 2016 D9520 conference in Renmark from the 28th of April until the 1st of May.
In conclusion Dick said  the words of our RI president Ravi Ravindran should inspire us.

" Our time on this earth is finite, and it's always shorter than we think. How do we want to spend it? Will we give of ourselves to others so that the world be richer because we passed through it? Or will we spend our days as the famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore wrote , in stringing and unstringing our instruments , while the song we came to sing remains unsung? The glory of Rotary is that it helps us find a way to sing that song. Our time is now. It will never come again.    Be  a  gift  to  the  world."

President Damian thanked DG Dick his informative and inspiring address and presented him with a cheque for Polio Plus of $1700.00.
