Hi Leakies! This week during our #TLBnourish campaign we are talking about nourishing our littles.  There are so many methods to providing nourishment for our babies and children as well as tons of philosophies on how to approach just that.  We are here at The Leaky Boob to tell you there is a secret to knowing what is best for you and your family.  Be fed. Feed with love. Because #fedisbest. When we nourish our children we are doing it as an outpouring of our love for them and its through providing nourishment for our family they get their first taste of what love is. See what we have for you below, we hope you find it nourishing. Don't miss the huge giveaway too!
Dear Leakies,

The number one rule in breastfeeding support is feed the baby.

Always.

Sure, how we feed them is important but nothing is as important as feeding the baby. With #TLBnourish we're focusing on how we're doing that together recognizing that pressure of how to do so can make that more difficult. Instead, we're exploring the diversity of what nourishing really looks like.

From breast and bottle to introducing solids to the 21 meals a week (plus snacks), there is so much more involved than simply nutrition. We bond and form relationships around what nourishes us.

Nourish.

Join us on this journey, check out our Instagram for real life inspiration through #TLBnourish.

And don't miss out on the amazing giveaway featuring Mommy Moosli, Wean Green, 5 Phases bottles, Evenflo Feeding, Innobaby, and Belibea Bra all supporting you to be fully nourished.

Peace and nourishment to you and yours,

Jessica Martin-Weber

Breastfeeding During Pregnancy

Can I breastfeed throughout my pregnancy?

Breastfeeding during pregnancy is very normal. Throughout history and even today in many parts of the world, children survive because they continue to breastfeed throughout pregnancy. In MOST cases, it is extremely safe, completely normal, and very healthy to continue breastfeeding while you are pregnant with your next baby.

Where this whole concept of it being an issue came from is with people who have had recurrent miscarriages, and people who are bleeding early in pregnancy.  READ MORE

Nourishing Gifts

So much of our lives revolve around feeding our families. Sometimes that can be fun! But sometimes it’s completely draining.

Seriously, how can they be hungry again!

But nourishment is so much more than just feeding.

Nourishment includes nutrition for our bodies, but also, our spirits find nourishment in connection, our relationships find nourishment in each other, our children find nourishment in our arms, our minds are nourished through learning and conversation, and our hearts are nourished by being with the people we love.

Which is why we’re hoping to nourish you with a giveaway to compliment your nourishment journey wherever it takes you. #TLBnourish giveaway is all about supporting you as your nourish those you love.

[Video] Teach Me How to Breastfeed

This is great breastfeeding education! It made us laugh and bop along to the beat.

Unfortunately, it was removed from
Facebook when it was originally posted. Somebody reported it for nudity who had an issue with the occasional visible nipple. Funny thing is, those nipples are totally in line with FB's interaction guidelines because they were within the context of breastfeeding. So then why did FB remove the video?

Parenting and Feeding Around the Web

Can You Spot What's Wrong in This Picture?

I love that I can use the Evenflo Double Electric Pump with batteries instead of the power cord! It's perfect for trying to pump and cuddle. My left breast is a slacker so I've been trying to pump on the left more often to help it catch up. The instructions that came with the pump have really helped me "milk" every last drop from the left side by teaching me how to encourage another let down using the controls and massaging the breast before pumping. I really like how it fits with the BeliBea bra too, putting the pump in the ideal position for optimal suction!

Nourishing. #TLBnourish.

Homemade Supplemental Nursing System

Why make your own Supplemental Nursing system (SNS)? Well, for starters it’s a lot cheaper. When I say a lot, I mean… like…. $40 cheaper. It’s also much simpler and easier to use. READ MORE

Joe Cross Tackles Childhood Obesity in The Kids Menu

Joe Cross, an Australian filmmaker and the face behind the juicing craze, has released his third documentary, The Kids Menu. This film differs from his first two, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead 1 & 2, in that it doesn’t rank juicing above all other nutrition techniques.

Instead, Cross explores ways to improve the wellness of younger generations on a much larger scale.  READ MORE

Raising Girls Feels Like Throwing Money Out the Window

Did you see the gif of the little kid throwing wads of cash out a window with the caption “How It Feels Raising Girls?” It was all over Facebook this week.

We found it decidedly not funny, as it expresses that raising girls is like throwing money out the window – as if it is a waste of money to spend money on girls. Not just any people, or all kids – specifically girls.  READ MORE

Dads' Guide for Cooking for Kids

The idea that men can’t cook for the family seems archaic and ridiculous, particularly since there’s a long-standing flip side of that sexism where the top chefs in the world have been men – since the beginning of Top Chef-dom. They can’t cook at home but they can dominate the commercial kitchen? READ MORE

How Our Family Started Eating Healthy-ish

I don’t know how it happened, it was a slow process, but over time we became… healthy-ish

When were first started our lives together 20 years ago, Jessica and I had come from backgrounds that were considered healthy-ish, depending on how you define healthy. Jessica’s family didn’t eat any refined sugar or processed grains (her mom milled her own wheat to make bread) while my family was more into moderation. At the time (and still, though to a lessening degree), healthy meant low-fat, some vegetables, and a smaller serving of ice cream. Remember ice milk?  READ MORE

Drunken Hook-Up Culture is the Problem, Not "Rape Culture"

I have so many friends who love Matt Walsh. To be clear, he is a misogynist who victim blames and supports rapists. Support him, follow him, like him, and you like his ideology that oppresses others.

My reaction to this tweet of his (and the follow up ones of him defending it) is: tell that to my 3 and 5 year old daughters. Hook up culture, my ass.
