Masterclass with Johannes Moser
"I think it's so important that the music we play we also experience physically in our bodies...let the music move you."
The importance of movement in music was just one of many pieces of wisdom that Mr. Moser shared with the Project STEP community during his masterclass on Sunday, January 25th. It was an incredibly engaging afternoon, during which Mr. Moser even incorporated dance to illustrate a musical phrase (using his cello as a partner of course). Mr. Moser performed earlier in the week with the Boston Symphony Orchestra where some of our students were able to see and hear him give a fiery performance of the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto. At the masterclass, Mr. Moser was just as masterful, talented, and full of personality with his teaching as he is with his playing. We truly do hope that he returns to Boston soon!
Project STEP Teams up with Tufts and Triple Helix!
On Saturday, January 31st, the Triple Helix Piano Trio returned to lead a workshop for Project STEP students on the subject of composition. They were joined by Tufts Professor of Music John McDonald and 9 of his composition students, who will be writing short pieces for some of our musicians.
...And Coming Up
On Saturday, each composer was paired up with a STEP student, and each pair engaged in an exchange in which they shared musical performances and ideas.
We are hoping that the students (both performers and composers) will continue this dialogue over the next few months as the pieces begin to take form. The second part of the workshop will take place on Saturday, April 25th, and will feature performances by STEP students as they debut the compositions. We can't wait to hear the finished products!
