APRIL EXHIBIT
           GUEST ARTIST

         Christopher McCusker

Christopher McCusker is a graphic designer with 30 years experience in marketing and design. While he enjoys working with a computer to produce graphics and publications for his clients, he also enjoys the freedom of working with his hands and creating fine art – purely for its aesthetics.

His abstract artwork reflects his sense of order and design, while embracing the opportunity for randomness and chance. He strives to visually engage his audience to step closer to his artwork and explore the details.

Christopher also teaches several courses at Curry College. He assists the McMullen Museum at Boston College as a Preparator and serves as a Portfolio Reviewer for the Massachusetts College of Art.

ARTIST'S TIPS

This weeks tips come from artist Karen Margulis. She is suggesting ways to find time to paint.
  • Take time to get organized. If you spend a free day organizing and prepping  you won't have to do these things on your next painting day. When I worked full time I would stock up on precut papers. I would cut paper to smaller sizes and attach a reference photo so when it was time to paint I had several subjects ready to go.
  • On painting days begin the session with a small quick study. I like to do 10 minute studies.  They are warm ups and often doing one or two gets my creative juices flowing. I am then ready to settle down and paint something larger or more involved.
  • If you really don't get big blocks of free time make the most of short breaks and paint something small. Again having your supplies set up and ready makes a huge difference. While a big studio is nice, a small spot where you can keep some painting supplies handy is all you really need for small studies.

Quote of the Month:

After the first brush-stroke, the canvas assumes a life of its own; at this point, you become both governor and spectator to your own event. (Anonymous)
