The Intersection of Healthcare Innovation and Cybersecurity

June 3, 2021 - 12pm CST

The intersection of healthcare and technology is setting the stage for unimaginable innovation. From improving patient outcomes and lessening access disparity to helping healthcare organizations become more efficient and secure, technologies like 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented and Virtual Reality promise tremendous benefits. But the future won’t happen overnight, and if the benefits are to be realized, healthcare innovation will require a whole new level of collaboration between physicians, administrators, technologists and patients themselves. Drawing on primary research and frequent interactions with leading healthcare organizations, David Grady, Chief Cyber Security Evangelist at Verizon, will share insights into today’s healthcare/IT innovation landscape. Topics will include how 5G is already changing healthcare, an introduction to cybercrime trends in healthcare, and a review of several use cases that illustrate how quickly the IT-driven future of healthcare is coming.
DAVID GRADY, Chief Security Evangelist, Verizon

When he’s not writing about cybersecurity or speaking about it at industry events, David Grady helps Verizon’s customers refine and achieve their security objectives. David joined Verizon’s cybersecurity product and marketing team in 2015 from State Street Corporation, where, as a Vice President, he helped design and implement a continuous cybersecurity monitoring program.
David was also a Senior Vice President for Security & Risk at Citizens Bank, where he built e-discovery, records management and data leakage prevention programs. Before becoming a Certified Information Security Manager (ISACA CISM) in 2010, David wrote for The Boston Globe and was later deputy press secretary to two Boston mayors. His TED Talk on time-management has been viewed close to 3 million times and translated into 38 languages.
This workshop is open to everyone. Registration is required to attend.

National Library of Medicine T15 Training Grant
Northwestern University Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Training Program (nuBIDS)
Drs. Abel Kho, Justin Starren, and Kristi Holmes have recently submitted an application for a National Library of Medicine T15 training grant in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science. In the grant application, they described the tremendous growth in Informatics at Northwestern over the past 10 years.
With the help of Kathy Guzman, we created some visuals of the expertise here on our campus.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be reaching out to many of you to help us refine our web presence and capture more details on the biomedical informatics and data science community here at Northwestern.
