  • IAC 2016 Abstract Submission Deadline EXTENDED. In response to overwhelming demand, the IAF's International Programme Committee has extended the deadline for abstract submission. The new submission deadline is Monday, 7 March (23:59 CET).
  • IISL Members wishing to serve as observers on behalf of the IISL to the upcoming COPUOS Legal Subcommittee, please inform the IISL Secretariat by March 21.
  • The most recent Minutes of the General Assembly of the IISL, held in Jerusalem, are now available via this link:

The opportunity is open for all IISL members to suggest topics for the IISL Colloquium to be held in Adelaide in 2017.

Dear Members, we are in the process of updating member information in the Institute’s accounting system and intend to email invoices to individual and institutional members in the second quarter.

Members are encouraged to update their information in the Member Database whenever there is any change in contact information (particularly changes in email addresses).

Global Conference on Space and the Information Society
Connecting the world via space – policies, technologies, and applications
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the IISL's sister organization the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) will convene the Global Conference on Space and the Information Society in Geneva, Switzerland on June 6-7, 2016 at the ITU Headquarters.

GLIS 2016 will examine and discuss the different means by which space allows people to connect worldwide. GLIS 2016 will analyse in details the impact that space policies, space technologies and space applications have on the daily life of people, organisations and governments communicating and exchanging information around the world.

Members Announcements

  • IISL President Tanja Masson-Zwaan and other IISL members are taking part in the recently created Hague Space Resources Governance Working Group, hosted by the International Institute of Air and Space Law at Leiden University. The working group is chaired by René Lefeber of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and IISL Members Olavo Bittencourt (University of Santos, Brazil) and Michael Simpson (Secure World Foundation) serve as Vice-Chairs. The aim of the working group is to identify and formulate building blocks for the governance of space resource activities and to prepare recommendations on the implementation strategy and forum for negotiations on an international agreement or non-legally binding instrument.
  • Board member Joanne Gabrynowicz recently published in the Washington Post's In Theory feature, on US legislation on the use of celestial resources.

  • March 21 – Deadline for IISL Members who wish to serve as observers on behalf of the IISL to the upcoming COPUOS Legal Subcommittee to notify the IISL Secretariat.
  • March 22 – Deadline for Memorials for the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court - African Regional Round.
