Passing of Andrea Boese, Member of the IAF Bureau
 
The IISL is very sad to note the untimely passing of Andrea Boese.

Andrea worked closely with many from the space community, including the IISL, and was a highly motivated colleague.

We wish her family strength during this difficult time.

IISL Run-Off Election, September 2015

Our recent elections campaign resulted in a tie between two candidates for a position on the Board of Directors, Skip Smith and Les Tennen. Consequently, there is a run-off election to resolve this tie. The run-off will be held from today until September 15. Please cast your ballot!

All IISL Members who are eligible to vote and are paid-up on their annual dues can vote by logging into the IISL internal website, at http://www.iislweb.net/.

Simply login to the site with your username and password, and a window will open with instructions on how to cast your ballot. 
 

Member Highlights
 
Contributions to the members area should be submitted by the 20th of the preceding month to be included in the Newsletter. Contributions must abide by the guidelines and should be sent to secretary@iislweb.org.

2014 IISL Proceedings Now Published

Eleven Publishing has now made available the 2014 Proceedings of the IISL. This publications includes the proceedings of the 57th Colloquium on the Law of Outer Space held in Toronto, Canada from 29 September till 3 October 2014, including the 29th IAA-IISL Scientific-Legal Roundtable, as well as the report of the IISL-ECSL Space Law Symposium held on the occasion of the 53rd Session of the Legal Subcommittee of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space in Vienna, Austria in March 2014, and the report of the 9th Eilene M. Galloway Symposium on Critical Issues in Space Law, held in Washington D.C., in December 2014. It also contains the report and best written memorials of the World Finals of the 23nd Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition.

2015 Prof. Dr. 
I. H. Ph. Diederiks-Verschoor Award for Best Space Law Paper by an Author under 30

 

 

Applications are now being accepted for the Prof. Dr I.H. Ph. Diederiks-Verschoor Award for the best paper in space law by an author under the age of 30. This award is granted annually by the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law to recognize excellence in scholarly achievement among the next generation of space lawyers. The award will be presented during the annual IISL Dinner held during the IAC for which the winner will receive a complimentary ticket. In order to be eligible to apply an applicant's paper must have been accepted for presentation at the IISL Colloquium. 


 

Applicants must email the completed Entry Form along with their paper in MS Word format without name, affiliation, or any other information that could identify the author by September 24, 2015 to the IISL Executive Secretary at secretary@iislweb.org.

Manfred Lachs 2016 Problem Released


The Case for the 2016 Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition has been posted on the Lachs Moot Court website and can be downloaded from

The Case is entitled Banché v Rastalia and concerns issues of space debris, commercial spaceflight services and liability. Four regional rounds will be held in April - June 2016 in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. The regional winning teams will compete in the World Finals to be held during the annual meeting of the International Institute of Space Law, in conjunction with the 67th International Astronautical Congress, September 26 - 30, 2016. in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Additional information, including the deadlines for registration in the regional rounds and the registration form will be posted on the Lachs Moot Court website soon.

IISL Events at the
2015 International Astronautical Congress
 
Members wishing to give powers of representation for the annual meeting being in Jerusalem to another member should do so in writing to secretary@iislweb.org by the deadline of September 15, 2014.
 
The 58th Colloquium on the Law of Outer Space will be held in Jerusalem from Oct. 13 to 16. The following panels will be part of the Colloquium:

As a reminder, the annual IISL Dinner will be held at the Maiersdorf Faculty Club and Conference Center, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on October 15, 2015 after the world finals of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition. Cocktails will be served at 7:00pm and dinner will begin at 8:00pm. Members should RSVP through the member’s area of the IISL website found at http://www.iislweb.net. The price for this year's dinner is 75 Euros per person which can be paid via Paypal at the IISL website (http://www.iislweb.org).
