Waiting Until it is Safe

We may be restless after six + weeks of sheltering in place and keeping our social distance, but we have several more weeks of waiting ahead of us. State officials have given a preview of a four-phase approach to restarting/reopening our work places once certain health conditions have been met:

Stage 1: Our current statewide stay-at-home order except for the essential workforce.

Stage 2: Re-opening of low risk work places; such as: schools, childcare facilities, manufacturing, retail businesses with curbside service, and some offices.

Stage 3: Re-opening of high risk workplaces (with closer proximity to others); such as: salons, gyms, movie theaters, sporting events (without live audiences), and in-person religious services.

Stage 4: End of the stay-at-home order and reopening of concert venues, sporting events with live audiences, and convention centers.

Since church services are listed in the high risk category of stage 3, we do not expect to be gathering for a while.  It could be several more weeks, if not a few months, before we gather in the sanctuary for worship.  Even when we are allowed to re-open, our church’s Re-Open Plan Task Force will have announced a plan of our own to ensure the safety and protection of our congregation as a whole and those individuals most at risk to this virus.  We will keep you informed.  Meanwhile, we wait on God and we keep in contact with one another as one community, connected in Christ.

Celebrating the Lord’s Supper

Online ~ Sunday, May 3

Sunday May 3 is the first Sunday of the month and we will follow our usual practice of celebrating the Lord’s Supper as part of our online worship. To do so, we invite you to participate in one of the following ways:
  1. Follow the video presentation of the Lord’s Supper as part of our online worship format.
  2. Join with others in one of three Zoom gatherings (scheduled at 8:30, 9:30, and 11:00 AM) as a pastor directs us to partake of the communion elements in unison. We will use the same Zoom link for all three communion times; join us at your preferred time. (A different Zoom link is provided below for our fellowship later at 11:30 AM PDT.)
  3. Phone Colleen Soldate (707) 328-5465 to arrange for communion by phone (for those without internet access).  If you know of someone who may need to participate in this way, please let us know.
Whichever communion experience you choose, you will need to prepare the communion elements ahead of time. Here is what you will need:
  • bread -- some form of bread or cracker;
  • juice or wine, preferably red; if you have neither of these then any suitable liquid;
  • a cup, wine glass, or chalice.
For all who choose to participate via Zoom, you will be muted automatically at the start and during the communion ceremony.  Once the service has ended we will invite those who wish to stay on and greet one another to do so.  We will use the same Zoom link for all three worship times join us at your preferred time.  Here is the link:

Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. ~Isaiah 40:30-31
