Update from Children’s and Youth Ministry

Summer 2020 is looking different than any of us ever imagined. Although we had to cancel in person VBS, we were excited to find out that the curriculum we planned to use came out with resources for us to provide an At Home VBS Kit to our FPC Families with young children. The theme for VBS 2020 is “FOCUS Take A Closer Look.” Any family that registered for a kit received a box full of 5 lessons, which included a link to watch a VBS video online, a Bible Story lesson, craft and snack. Each lesson taught about different ways we can FOCUS on God.

It’s been wonderful to hear feedback from families about how they are enjoying their kits. One family shared, “It was great to sit around the table and discuss God's creation”, another family shared a photo of their child looking for God in creation, by using the magnifying glass that was provided in their kit, to spy for little bugs in the backyard. We are grateful that families had the opportunity to Focus on God together using these kits.

Youth Ministry at FPC continues to be in a state of lock down in regard to physically meeting because of COVID-19. For now, we continue our meetings virtually.
  • Granite Middle school group meets on Wednesday Nights at 6pm on Zoom.
  • Decade High school fellowship meets on Thursday night at 6pm on Zoom.
In June, we started “small group” zoom meetings. We also have Online Nintendo Game meet ups during the week. “Sunday Rendezoom” meets via zoom on Sunday mornings at 10am. Of these weekly meetings, one youth said, “It’s fun to be with other kids and interact with other people even over zoom!” Cory Myers (Director of Youth Ministry) also provides weekly video devotions for Sundays for students that cannot attend Sunday Rendezoom at 10am. Galina Berger is currently serving as the Youth intern at 15 hours a week to lend support to students. Overall, we are anxiously awaiting the day that we can be together in an actual meeting space. Cory is currently meeting with the We Grow and the Reopen task force to form a strategy for starting onsite connection with students when it is deemed safe.

Movie Night on Zoom

Friday, July 17 at 7pm, Just Mercy (PG-13)

We invite you to view the 2019 movie Just Mercy in advance of our meeting.  Just Mercy, a powerful film based on a true story, tells of a racially-biased injustice to a man of color who is wrongly convicted of murder and condemned to death and of his lawyer’s efforts to exonerate him.  At our gathering, this movie will provide us with the opportunity to begin discussions of a topic that is important generally and particularly timely right now.

The film is currently streaming on Amazon, YouTube and Google Movies (and possibly other streaming sources) or you could obtain the disc from Netflix or Redbox machines at many grocery or other retailers.  Some streaming sources are making it available for free for a limited time.  Also, we will have a limited number of copies available to view from your home. If you want to join us, please email Allie (or call 707-890-8010) because we will be sending out some additional information prior to our Zoom gathering.  Contact Allie Shoulders also if you want to borrow one of the copies of the disc. We do not have the capability to show movies on Zoom at this point.
