We Celebrate
Reopen Task Force Update

Some businesses and services have begun to reopen in our community, including some churches under defined conditions. At the same time, we hear reports of an increase in reported cases. While we may feel we are done with the corona virus, clearly it is not done with us. Therefore, the safety of our congregation and wider community remains our priority in formulating a plan to reopen the church.

Our Task Force is in the process of gathering information over the next several weeks to determine what they will recommend to Session regarding when and under what conditions we might make use of our facilities. Task Force members are communicating with every leadership team (cluster groups and committees) to assess programs, activities, and future plans. In a few weeks we will send you a survey to hear what concerns you might have related to our church’s reopening. When the time is right, we hope to welcome our congregation and community to in-person worship and other church functions as soon as possible in a caring manner that promotes the safety and well-being of all.

Meanwhile, we continue to take a slow and cautious approach. We will not reopen our church facilities until we feel it is safe to do so. We will continue to stay connected as a congregation through online worship, our website, weekly church emails, and phone contacts and for those without internet connection a weekly printed newsletter with distribution of worship CDs.

Book Study: Survival Guide for the Soul
Led by Rev. Emily Stockert

Are you hungry to grow in your relationship with God? Would you like to form healthy spiritual habits that pull you closer to Christ?

You are invited to join in a 6-week “zoom” book study led by Pastor Emily. We will read and discuss Survival Guide for the Soul by Ken Shigematsu. This book offers fresh ways to orient our lives in Christian spiritual practices so that our souls can flourish.

Our study is for anyone who wants to read, engage in respectful dialogue, and learn more about spiritual practices that can help us surrender in humility to God’s unconditional love.

“Christianity isn’t about growing ‘good’ - it’s about growing grace-filled and Christlike. Blessed assurance, Jesus assures us: You don’t have to pull yourself up by your bootstraps - you only have to pull close.” - From the Foreword to Survival Guide for the Soul

Our “Survival Guide” book study begins on Friday July 10 @ 12 noon on zoom and continues until August 21 (6 Fridays - 7/10, 7/17, 7/31, 8/17, 8/14, 8/21; no mtg 7/24). Click here to sign up.

Books can be purchased online via any major book retailer such as: Copperfieldsamazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, or booksamillion.com. Please contact Allie if you need help finding the book.

We Serve

From our Community Service Team:
Volunteers are needed to assist with food-distribution

Food access is a growing issue for many in our community and Catholic Charities is committed to meeting the need. Their clients are the most vulnerable in our community, including low income families, individuals with health issues, and seniors.  By providing nutritious, healthy food, these clients are able to use money they would spend on groceries to pay their rent and utilities.

Catholic Charities has a need for volunteers to assist with four food-distribution programs in Santa Rosa and Windsor. These are scheduled events performed with Catholic Charities' supervision and are a great service opportunity for couples, friends, or small group. Routine Covid precautions will be followed (including social distancing and masks). Below is a description of the various service opportunities:
  • Monday & Friday, 11 AM to 12 PM -- 2 volunteers each day, Sandman Hotel. Food distribution to shelter residents relocated here. Great for a couple or two friends.
  • Friday, 9:30 AM-12 PM -- 7 volunteers, Palms Inn.  Box and bag food for delivery. This activity does not include contact with clients.
  • Friday, 1 PM to 3 PM -- 4 volunteers, Windsor. Door to door distribution of 50 boxes of food at a low-income apartment complex (Burbank Housing).
  • Evening/Weekend (days and times to be determined), 2 hours, 4 volunteers, Santa Rosa apartment complex. Hot meals distributed to 33 households each week in July.
Interested volunteers need to fill out the Catholic Charities online application, click here to do so. Emily Rose Thiessen of Catholic Charities will personally reach out to you after she receives your application!
