Holy Week From Home

Easter Sunday

The most important Sunday of the Christian Year and we’re inviting you to stay home.  Just as we have done for the past four Sundays, we will celebrate Easter this year with another online worship presentation . . . and we will continue to worship in this manner until the threat of the Corona virus pandemic has subsided.

Good Friday

The meaning of Easter is lost if we do not give our time and attention to Jesus suffering and death on the cross. In previous years we observed the significance of Jesus self-sacrifice with a Maundy Thursday evening worship and a Good Friday Noon worship.  This year, we are presenting the format of our Maundy Thursday Tenebrae worship and posting it online for Friday, April 10.  We recommend you engage this worship in the evening after sundown since it includes extinguishing seven lit candles in a gradual progression of darkness.  The online worship page will provide details for your participation.

Sunday Fellowship via Zoom
Last Sunday’s zoom communion participants enjoyed seeing one another and interacting with one another following the communion ceremony.  Since this proved to be a wonderful time for fellowship and a vital community connection, we’ve decided to make it a regular Sunday feature.  So following our online worship presentation of Easter, we invite you to accept the zoom invitation (below) and join us for a time of fellowship at 11:30 AM.   You are welcome to drop-in and stay as little or as-long-as you like to see, greet one another, or wave.  Think of it as a gathering space like Ingram Hall or the entrance to the sanctuary.

Time: Apr 12, 2020 11:30 AM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Growing Our Faith

Adult Discipleship

Tim Stafford this past Tuesday presented his second installment of a three-week class titled “Three Small Books—Ruth, Esther, and Jonah” offered via zoom.  The class has been recorded and available for you to experience here.

New Small Group

A new small group has been formed for the duration of our social distancing led by Mark and Donna Thomas. To join in, leave a message at (707) 292-5789 or email Donna at: donnacthomas@gmail.com.

Our Financial Picture

The health crisis has resulted in a global economic crisis. We have seen its effect in our March reported giving totals as follows:
            March actual income              $  86,935
            March budgeted income           101,657
                                                               $ (14,722)
During these uncertain times, we are grateful for your faithful giving of offerings mailed to the church address; internet banking; or online donations.

Church Family News

We celebrate the recognition of Joe Maloney by the Rotary Club of Sebastopol who chose Joe for their Innovative Teacher of the Year Award.  The zoom presentation included Rotarians, colleagues of Joe at Laguna High School, students, and friends.  Presenters of the award said “Joe makes it possible for students to engage and develop where they might not otherwise participate. Joe exemplifies what it means to be a teacher – he leads with his heart, cares about and invests in his students, and goes the extra mile in everything he does.”   One participant’s sign read: “Way to Go Joe!”

We all are affected by the threat of COVID-19, but those infected by this virus rely on the care and treatment of medical professionals.  We are proud of those in our congregation who serve in this capacity offering their services with dedication, commitment, and care.  Among them is nurse practitioner Jennifer Ammons, who was featured in last Sunday’s Press Democrat 16 page section, title “Making a Difference.”  If you missed seeing the article, you can read it here.

Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!" ~Matthew 20:17-19
