This November 15th – 19th La Trobe University and Healthy Greater Bendigo are teaming up to deliver an Innovation Sprint exploring ways to reduce food insecurity across Greater Bendigo.
Prevention focused. The Innovation Sprint will be a dynamic, innovative and opportunity focused exercise held over 5 days. The Innovation Sprint frames food insecurity as a challenge with an opportunity for innovative solutions.
The Innovation Sprint is designed to train participants in the complexities of food insecurity including the importance of healthy eating, physical activity and social connection. The participants will then use this knowledge in the development of innovative solutions for addressing food insecurity across Greater Bendigo.
The project funded by the Vichealth Reimagining Health grants and delivered through Healthy Greater Bendigo’s Health is Everyone’s Business Leadership Activation Project which aims to engage and support local leaders to see health as everyone’s business, understand the complexity of food systems and identify innovative opportunities to affect them.
Dr. Brad Hodge from La Trobe University is leading the Innovation Sprint in what is a first for the La Trobe University Rural Health School, Bendigo.
Dr Hodge notes “Sometimes we just need to take a few steps back from the challenge in order to really understand it. This innovation sprint is about understanding the complexities of Greater Bendigo’s need for food relief and healthy eating, then taking a creative problem-solving approach to generating and testing ideas that might revolutionise the way that we engage with this challenge”.
