A Poem for Your Park or Green Space

Here is unique chance to have a poem especially written for your green space.
As part of Lyra - Bristol Poetry Festival 2021, Festival Poet Beth Calverley is inviting four park groups to dedicated group poetry co-creation sessions in the first week of April. Beth will host a relaxed conversation with each group and weave their words into a typewritten poem.
how it works
Do you know a park group who would like to take part in one of four inspiring Zoom poetry  sessions? If so, please put them forward by 19th March 2021. We will choose four groups that represent a wide geographical spread across Bristol and at least four different green spaces.
Beth will guide you on a gentle journey through your thoughts, feelings, memories and hopes for your local parks and green spaces. She will create a beautiful poem specifically for your group, live in the moment, on her vintage typewriter. You’ll receive the typewritten poem to keep.
future poetry
Your group poem will be shared via our festival blog and social media. The four conversations will inspire a response poem that Beth will create after these focus sessions. We will share this to inspire people across Bristol to create their own poetry for their local parks and green spaces.
how to sign up for a co-creation session
Sign up by emailing with your chosen date and the window of time when your group is free. The session will take an hour and each group is welcome to bring up to 10 guests. Feel free to bring any objects or photographs to share and a pen and paper.
Available dates:
Tuesday 6th April / Sunday 4th April / Saturday 3rd April
Looking forward to meeting you! Any questions, please email
can’t sign up but want to help?
In mid-April, we will share the poem written by Beth, a poetry workshop and a poster of prompts, inspiring people across Bristol to write poems about their local parks and green spaces. It would be great if you could spread the word about these opportunities when we send you the call-out!

Please Check Your Group’s Listing

All groups that are formally members of the Parks Forum are listed on our website at
The links take you to a pdf with brief details of the group and contact details, this was taken from your original membership form, with any updates that I have been asked to make since.
Please check that the information for your group is correct and let me know, either that it is OK or that it needs changing, especially if it hasn’t been changed recently.
Over the next few weeks I will be adding a note to the listing showing when each entry was last updated / confirmed. I will then delete any entries that are over 5-years old where the details haven’t been confirmed.

Online Resources for Park Groups

Thanks to Len for finding some online resources for park groups that were published by Locality last year. It covers all sorts of parks group issues – from starting up, constitutions,  funding, social media to recruitment and back again.
