Bristol Parks Forum Update

In this update:

Future Parks

Watch out in the press and on Breakfast TV on Monday for more news on the ‘Future Parks Accelerator’ initiative that was launched by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Trust in October.

Bristol & Bath Parks Foundation Launch

We had an excellent response at the Festival of Nature to the launch of the new charity, with lots of positive discussions.

This was followed by a meeting in London on Thursday for all the Rethinking Parks Projects across the UK.

There is no doubt that Bristol is very much seen to be leading the way on exploring future ways to improve parks.

Both BBPF websites are now live:

www.yourpark.org.uk   - www.bristolbathparksfoundation.org.uk

The Foundation will soon be announcing the board of Trustees who will run the charity as it develops over the next few years.

Foundation and Partnerships Manager Job Opportunity

A reminder to please pass on details of this role to anyone you know that might be interested.

This will be somebody who will work closely with Trustees that are currently being recruited and the Steering Group to bring the vision and mission of The Bristol and Bath Parks Foundation to life.

This role is now featured on the Bristol & Bath Parks Foundation website:

An update from Ella…

Here are the links for the two Volunteer Leader H&S training courses we currently have set up. Note that these courses are for volunteers who will be leading activities. Volunteers who just want to attend or take part in activities do not need to complete the training.

We are operating these sessions on a first come first served basis for volunteers from across all of Bristol.
Wednesday 3rd July: (Greenway Centre, Southmead)  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/health-safety-training-bristol-parks-volunteers-tickets-63379940107
Friday 12th July (probably St Werburghs Community Centre, but just waiting on confirmation): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/health-and-safety-training-bristol-park-volunteers-tickets-63187746250
Saturday 13th July (St Werbughs Community Centre): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/health-and-safety-training-bristol-park-volunteers-tickets-62843804511
Battery Operated Power Tool training details tbc next week, but will be on Wednesday 3rd July afternoon.

Ella is also working with Susan Barker from the RHS to make some horticultural training available and Amy at Groundwork to see what training they could provide. Please email Ella.Hogg@bristol.gov.uk if your group has any specific training needs.

There are also now Horticulture sessions in the Rose Garden with Charlie at Ashton Court on Tuesdays and Thursdays, see image below.

Ella has also been able to get the Bristol City Council website updated, so that there is now a dedicated page for volunteering in parks with pages on general volunteering opportunities and a separate page for park groups.
