South Dakota Mines has won both the student and open division categories at the South Dakota Governor’s Giant Vision Business Competition. The competition is the biggest of its type in the state and Mines students or alumni have taken home top honors at the competition for eight years in a row. Mines has taken home first place at every statewide business competition this year.

 

Scott Wood, Ph.D., assistant professor of nanoscience and nanoengineering at South Dakota Mines, has won a highly prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award for his work to study the causes of osteoarthritis and to build foundational knowledge needed to someday reverse the progression of the disease.

 

Two South Dakota Mines students are winners of 2022 Braun Student Inventor Award. One award is for a new type of water-degradable 3D printer resin, while the other is for a new type of campfire starter.

 

A team of South Dakota Mines students have captured second place in a global knife and sword-making competition. Mines was one of 20 international university teams vying for top spots at the 2022 Mineral, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) bladesmithing competition.
