‘Gonna be a Calm, Calm Christmas…’

I wonder how your Christmas arrangements are shaping up? Perhaps you haven’t actually done anything really Christmassy yet, but are beginning to think about what needs to be done… the people you will be with, what you will buy for friends and family and so on. Maybe you have even made a resolution that this year will be the year that everything is in place well in advance, so that you will finally be able to glide through the Christmas period in a perfect state of calm.
There’s a saying that ‘if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.’ So what will you do differently this time round to achieve that elusive peaceful state at Christmas? The kind of peace that stays steady in the face of guests cancelling/adding themselves to your list, online gifts that don’t arrive on time, rooms that are still unprepared, Christmas foods that disappear from the shelves before you arrive, and the general mayhem that can accompany this time of year…?
One wise way forward is offered in an old Cherokee Indian tale. The story goes that an old Brave was enthralling his young Grandson with one of his yarns. ‘You know’, he told him, ‘2 ravenous wolves live inside me… and they are in a fight to the death!’ ‘Wow!’ said the shiny-eyed youngster. ‘Who are they?’ ‘Well’, continued the Brave, one is called ‘Grounded’. Whatever happens, he remembers how fortunate he is, and somehow nothing ever has the power to rock his world. He welcomes the unexpected, finds blue sky where others see only dark clouds, and sees life, beauty, and learning where others see imperfection and chaos; he always has enough time because he has decided what is really important and holds lightly those things that just aren’t.’

‘What about the other wolf?’ wondered the young Brave. ‘Ah’, replied his Grandfather. ‘He is called ‘Fretful’. He has been unhappy ever since a wonderful yet unachievable image took root in his mind. He lives with disappointment. And long lists. And stress. He broods constantly about what hasn’t been done, he expects others to let him down, and everything makes him anxious… And even when all goes well, he is just too tired, stressed and disappointed to enjoy it’, the old Brave shook his head sadly as he spoke.
The boy thought for a moment then asked quietly, ‘Grandad’… which wolf wins?’ The Old Brave leant across to his young grandson and whispered in his ear: ‘The one that I decide to feed!’

Wishing you a calm, peaceful and enjoyable run-up to the Christmas period!

Phobias? One-off Fast Release Special Offer!

'One morning I turned on the radio and heard Liz Ray talking about life coaching. I got in touch and booked up a series of sessions - not only did I magically achieve my weight goal, but my self-image began to turn around as well.'

'Here is Edward Bear coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump on the back of his head behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it.'
