Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle (CRB), an invasive pest, was detected Dec. 23, 2013 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor – Hickam (JBPHH) on coconut trees. A joint effort between USDA, UH at Manoa, U.S. Navy, HDOA and other partners has mobilized and an Incident Command System (ICS) has been established to respond to this pest emergency.

- On Base (All DOD property on Oahu; including Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH))
- 22 adults detected (of 2,741 adults detected since 12/23/2013).
- Off Base:
- 5 adults detected (of 352 adults detected since 12/23/2013).
- Surveillance & Trapping
- Investigation into possible breeding sites continues within established buffer zones.
- 3,152 trap services conducted on 2,995 total traps during this reporting period.
- Mulch site on Pearl City Peninsula detected 5 third instar and 35 second instar stage larvae.
- Mulch site surveys at Ted Makalena Golf Course, Hawaii Prince G.C. and in Nanakuli surveyed negative for CRB.
- Palm damage surveys at Hawaii Prince G.C. detected 28 palms with new damage.
- Palm surveys/resurveys conducted at Waipio Peninsula (palm removal inspection), Leeward Community College, Kewalo Basin - all negative for CRB.
- Mitigation & Outreach
- 185 members of the public interacted with during the Pacific Ink & Art Expo.
- 20 NAVFAC staff presented CRB information during their Pesticides Certification Class.
- 49 members of the public interacted with in the field during this reporting period.
- 12 businesses were interacted with in the field during this reporting period.
- 17 public reports responded to during this reporting period.
- Staff participated in bi-weekly military updates at JBPH-H and weekly CRB inter-agency meetings.
- Research
- Research is still underway to better understand the cyclic nature of weekly, monthly, and annual trap capture rates.

- A key to Oryctes species can be found in Endrodi (1985).
