Nearly into Spring!

The Escuela Easter course has been announced and we are delighted to welcome back Javier Latorre, who proved such a hit last year, and the wonderful Beatrice Morales. Details of the courses are below. Our very own special guest teacher will be there too, in the form of Ollie, who will be popping back from Amor de Dios in Madrid to teach Bulerías.

The Flamenco Festival is nearly upon us, bringing London a great showcase of flamenco talent and inspiration.  And do not miss the Juan Martin Flamenco Dance Ensemble at the ArtsDepot in Finchley, details below.

As for gigs coming up, there is the regular Peña Flamenca de Londres on Sunday March 16, and the regular Sunday nights at Bar Gansa: Daniela Occhiuzzo this Sunday, and the following Sunday it's Marta Glyn-Blanco.

Easter Course 2014

Friday April 18th - Tuesday 22nd April (5 days)

This year we are delighted to bring special Guest Teachers Javier Latorre and Beatrice Morales to teach Choreography, Technique, Bata de Cola and Bulerías.

Choreography Course

The Flamenco dance course includes classes at four levels: Improvers, Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. All students will study flamenco dance technique as well as choreography.

Each class will learn an original choreography suitable for its level. Improvers taught by Nuria García, Elementary by Beatriz Morales, Intermediate and Advanced by Javier Latorre. Each class is 1½ hours.

Bulerías Course

These short, fast dances are full of character and fun. Level 1 is taught by TBC , Level 2 and Level 3 by Beatriz Morales.
This class lasts one hour per day.

Cajon, Palmas & Rhythm

Improve your compás and timing as well as your understanding of flamenco structure and rhythm. Each class is 45 minutes and taught by Pablo Dominguez

Sevillanas Refresher

Improve your Sevillanas! You must already have learnt the basics to attend this course. You will learn to dance at different speeds and to different songs. Each class is 1 hour.

Singing

Develop your understanding and appreciation of the songs of flamenco, you do not have to have any singing experience. Each class is 1 hour.

Technique Course

These classes will improve your speed and style. Level 1 is taught by Nuria Garcia and Level 2/3 by Javier Latorre.

This class lasts one hour per day.

Bata de Cola Course

Learn the beautiful style and technique of the distinctive long Bata de Cola skirt. Note: this class is for Intermediate Level and above and you must have your own bata. This class is taught by Beatriz Morales for 1 hour each day.

Castanets

Learn effective exercises to develop good castanet technique to incorporate into your dance. Each class is 45 minutes.

Dazzling displays of dance, singing and awe-inspiring guitar music combine in an explosion of energy and passion. One of the world’s finest guitarists, Juan Martín, performs alongside “the cream of Spain’s dancers” (The Times). “Juan Martín reminded us of the power and beauty of flamenco” (The Independent).

Flamenco Festival London, Sadler’s Wells’ renowned annual season of flamenco dance and music returns for its eleventh year, having celebrated its hugely successful tenth anniversary in 2013.

This year's festival features six shows from some of the biggest names of the flamenco world. The international superstar Sara Baras makes her first appearance at the festival since 2008, and there are returns for Miguel Poveda, Farruquito and Belén Maya.
