Myth busting: The truth about tooth care
You love your smile, and you want to take great care of it. You probably know the basics: Brush three times a day, floss once a day, and visit us every six months. However, you might also “know” a few things about smile care that aren’t even true. Don’t feel bad – if you’ve bought into these common dental myths, you aren’t alone.
  • Myth – Stiff bristle toothbrushes are better
Fact – Soft bristles are sufficient to remove plaque, and stiffer brushes can actually damage gum tissues
  • Myth – Fruit juice doesn’t cause cavities like soda
Fact – Any food or beverage high in sugar or acid can cause decay; like soda, juice is high in both
  • Myth – You should brush immediately after eating
Fact – If you’ve consumed anything acidic, it can soften tooth enamel, and brushing may cause damage. Rinse with water immediately, and wait about an hour for enamel to re-harden before brushing
  • Myth – Children outgrow orthodontic problems
Fact – This rarely happens, but early orthodontic treatment may help guide proper development and avoid the need for more extensive treatment later
Anti-aging: It’s not all about wrinkles
When we think of the visual effects of growing older, our minds jump to wrinkles. However, that is not the only factor contributing to your appearance. Over time, teeth tend to wear down, darken, and accumulate minor damage such as chips or fractures. Naturally, we associate the appearance of these problems with an aged smile. One of the greatest secrets to a youthful appearance, according to beauty experts, is cosmetic dentistry. Some of the most commonly recommend procedures include:
  • Teeth whitening to remove stains and restore brightness
  • Dental bonding to cover chips or minor aesthetic flaws
  • Cosmetic bridges, dentures, or implant-supported crowns to fill the holes in your smile
  • Porcelain veneers or crowns to build up worn down teeth and create an aesthetically pleasing shape
  • Full smile makeover, which corrects all cosmetic smile concerns that you may have
