Community resource package launched for Australian Food Safety Week 2014

It’s just 2 weeks to go until Australian Food Safety Week to be held from 9 to 16 November 2014. The theme for Australian Food Safety Week 2014 will be the Temperature danger zone – keeping hot food hot and cold food cold. Food poisoning bacteria can survive and grow rapidly if food is left out in temperatures above 5°C and under 60°C. During the week we will be releasing the latest consumer research about current awareness of the temperature danger zone and advice on how to safely handle food.

Today we have launched our community resource package to help you get ready for the week. Here are some great ideas of what you and your workplace or community can do:

Spread the news – let your friends and colleagues know that Australian Food Safety Week is coming up by forwarding this newsletter and encouraging them to follow us on twitter  like us on Facebook  or to subscribe to our mailing list.Get out there on social media and use our hashtag #FoodSafetyWeek.
Be resourceful – thanks to the more the 200 of you who have ordered our free resources which should reach you by Australian Food Safety Week. Sorry we can’t accept any more mail orders but you can download electronic versions from our resources page.
Plan an event – why not set up a display or hold a BBQ or morning tea during the Week at work, with friends or in your community. Have some fun with our quiz - you could buy a few prizes such as a fridge or meat thermometer (from your local kitchen shop), a cooler bag or a lunchbox with an icebrick.
Get in the media – we have a ‘shell’ media release you can use adapt to promote your event to your local media – email it to your local TV, radio and newspapers a few days before the event.
