April, 2016

Welcome to our April Newsletter

Dear friend,

The evenings are getting longer, but the number of days to the EuroGames is shorter! If you have not registered yet, please do so as soon as possible as places are filling up quickly. Also, do not forget to book your accommodation, as it is busy in Helsinki the week of the EuroGames!

As decided by the general assembly in Glasgow, we will hold an Extraordinary General Assembly during the EuroGames in Helsinki, most likely on the Friday evening, but this is not yet confirmed.

We strongly advise that both FGG and GLISA return to the negotiating table and cease their separate plans. The community worldwide, including EGLSF members, have repeatedly asked and voted for both organisations to work together on a single event.

Finally would like to also say a huge "THANK YOU" to Leap Sports Scotland for organising such a successful conference and AGA. The EGLSF has 3 new board members as voted by the delegation, and we would like to welcome our new co-president Paul Brummitt, and two new board members Sarah Townsend and Diana van den Born to the EGLSF family. The delegation also elected Rome to host the 2019 EuroGames and Dusseldorf to host the 2017 AGA.

Extraordinary General Assembly

During the AGA in Glasgow, it was voted upon by the delegation to hold an Extraordinary General Assembly during the EuroGames in Helsinki this summer.

Motion 16 from the 2015 AGA proposed to make all official EGLSF language inclusive. This motion was passed, the consequence of which should have been further motions during the year in order to vote this language into the statues. But the spirit and intent of last year's motion was not carried through.  The delegates present at the AGA want to order a change in the statutes and bylaws in line with motion 16 from 2015. We will keep you update with location, time and date once it is confirmed.

Dusseldorf to Host 2017 AGA

The Sports Council of Düsseldorf looks forward to welcoming you to the AGA 2017 in Düsseldorf. With support from the city of Düsseldorf, VC Phönix and Weiberkram (two well established clubs in Düsseldorf) will organise an excellent AGA. We hope that you would also experience the best that that the cosmopolitan and tolerant city of Düsseldorf has to offer.

Düsseldorf is home to four EGSLF-member clubs: VC Phönix, Weiberkram, Düsseldorf Dolphins and Rainbow Tennis. TSC conTAKT will soon join the EGSLF. All five clubs are supporting this bid, with the VC Phönix and Weiberkram taking the lead.

EuroGames Rome 2019

Amongst the many decisions taken during the Assembly held in Glasgow, was that the EuroGames 2019 will be hosted in Rome.

Rome, Italy’s capital city, is one of the world Olympics cities; it hosted the 1960 Olympics Games and has been proposed for 2024 Olympics.

With the support of the national and regional local authorities, several partners including the CONI (the National Olympic Committee of Italy) we are happy to present our bid. We will be adding a section for the Roma EuroGames 2019 within the EGLSF website in the coming months so you can keep informed with the developments from the EuroGames organising committee.

EuroGames Helsinki 2016

Registration fee for all the competitive sports is for EGLSF (European Gay and Lesbian Sports Federation) members 85 €. Discount code for the fee is EGLSF2016L, for non-EGLSF members the fee is 110 €.

EuroGames is EGLSF’s European sports event usually held annually, celebrating sexual and gender diversity. With the EuroGames brand it is possible to gain sponsors, co-operative parties, and even more importantly, attention of the media and local citizens. All these put together make it possible to make the (sports) world a better place for everyone.
