St David's Minister's Missive

Dear St David's Church Family💒

This Sunday is the fifth Sunday of Easter and the launch of our St David's History Book! A chance to celebrate this great accomplishment by Vince Crow and the stories of our past. We usually have communion on the first Sunday in the month, however this month it will be next Sunday instead. You will find the liturgy for the service here...

2nd May 2021- Easter 5 Yr B History book launch

Here are the things that I would like to pass on to you this week:

Book Launch and BBQ - Please come and support this community event. If you are able to make it to the BBQ and if you are able to do so, please bring a salad or dessert to share (having said that, I'm bringing veggie burgers!). If you are unable to bring anything, we would love to share what we have with you. All are welcome.

The Insights article on the book launch can be found here:

A new local history called St David’s Haberfield: 150 Years will launch on Sunday 2 May. It explores the central role St David’s Uniting Church has played

New baby - many congratulations to Kath and Drew on the birth of Sophie Louise, who was born on Monday. And big congratulations also to Heather and Roger, who became grandparents for the first time 👏 Our love and prayers are with you all.

Re-imagining St David's update - Kim, David and I met with Rev Charissa Suli this week to have a chat about what this might look like. Charissa has kindly agreed to facilitate this process for us. It was a very positive session and at this stage we are thinking of holding a couple of sessions, to be concluded by the end of the year. The next step is for Charissa to get back to us with some potential dates. We'll keep you posted! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please chat with Kim, David or myself.

Beyond the Chrysanthemum - On Saturday 8th May (the day before Mother's Day) we will be holding a special service at St David's called 'Beyond the Chrysanthemum'. For many of us, Mother's Day can be a painful time, for many different reasons. This service will provide space for anyone (female and male) who wants to reflect and lament and also an opportunity for some pastoral support after the service. It will be a very unpressurised space, so equally you can just come and sit and be. Time 2.30pm.

Wednesday night Bible Study Group happens each week on Wednesday evenings. This group is having a bit of a re-think about how the bible-study looks and works. Please see David for more information.

Morning Prayer and Communion Service - 9.30am every Wednesday. A quiet space in the middle of the week to be still, pray, meditate to Taize music, discuss the gospel reading, followed by a cuppa at Garnish. All are welcome.

Please continue to pray for our work leading the children in Godly Play each Tuesday at Haberfield Public School

Prayers for local churches - I have been meeting with Revs from the local Haberfield churches and we have agreed to pray for each other. This week, please pray for the people and mission of St Oswald's Anglican Church.

This week's prayer is by Steve Garnass-Holmes - 'Vine and Branches'

O Christ, Holy Vine,
we live in you.
Your blood flows through us.
Your fruit ripens in us.
All your beloved the world over
are one with us in you.
We belong to them,
for we belong to you,
and your infinite life.
May we never sever ourselves
but by the sap of your love in us
flourish and blossom and bear fruit.

Wherever you are and whoever you are, you are welcome in this place.

May you know of the Risen Christ's presence now and always,
