St David's Missive and Liturgy

Dear St David's Church Family💒

It is with great happiness I read yesterday that as of Friday, face masks are no longer mandatory in church! This will be a great relief to many of us. Having said this, if you are welcome to continue wearing a mask if you are more comfortable. Either way, we look forward to seeing you on Sunday. At the time of writing, there is still no group singing allowed. Kim is away for the next few weeks, so we will be enjoying just the music during that time and also plan to use some Youtube clips.

This Sunday 14th February is Transfiguration Sunday, where we meet and wonder about the glowing Jesus! Please see liturgy attached.

This Sunday is also our AGM. We will take a short break after the service to grab a cuppa and then meet back in the church for the meeting. It would be great to see as many of you there that is possible. All are welcome.

Here are the things that I would like to pass on to you this week:

Our Church Council met last Sunday - here are some of the highlights for you. Please see Alison if you would like to see the full minutes.

-we will be holding a church 'Re-Imagining day in April/May

- we need to advertise our Kindness Cupboard more broadly and there was an idea to take food from it to those sleeping rough in Ashfield Park. If you would like to be involved ,please let Joy know.

- we'd like to set up a street library using a cupboard in the hall and put it by the Kindness Cupboard. Again, let me know if you are interested in being part of this.

-World Day of Prayer is at St David's on Friday 5th March - please see Kaye if you would like to be involved. All are welcome.

-Thank you to Hector for submitting the funding application for the internal church painting. Hoping that this will take place from July for 4 months.

-Our accounts are looking healthy - David will speak to this on Sunday. Please see David if you would like more information.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday - all are welcome to join us for our Ash Wednesday service at 9.30am. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent (the season leading up to Easter).

Common Grace has a Lent series available https://www.commongrace.org.au/jesus_justice

This week's prayer is by Nadia Bolz-Weber:

Give Us Good Courage

Dear God,

I’ve asked for so many things during this ridiculous pandemic: patience, forbearance, peace, safety, forgiveness, and a new season of the Great British Bake-Off.

But I’ve never asked for courage.

So, if courage is something you can give us more of, I think now would be a good time.

(Or maybe it doesn't work like that; maybe we don't get an extra measure of what we need only when we think to ask for it and ask nicely; like a second helping of gruel from the abusive guy who runs the orphanage.)

I’m asking for courage because I’ve tried ignoring my fear and that only works for like, 4 minutes. And I’ve tried resisting it but that seems to make my fear stronger like I’m its personal trainer.

So, give me courage, Lord, to show up in life despite the fear.

Courage to love, despite having been hurt.

Courage to heal, even though I sometimes love my wounds.

Courage to feel lonely and know it will not destroy me.

Courage to clean the kitchen.

Courage to trust that all I have needed, your hand hath already provided.

Amen

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, whether physically or via our live-stream.

Wherever you are and whoever you are, you are welcome in this place.

May God's light shine in us and through us🌟

With love, hope and peace

Joy💒
