Worship With Us This Sunday

Community Spirit UCC gathers each Sunday morning for an online worship service via Zoom. Log in between 10:15 and 10:25 AM. Worship begins at 10:30 AM.

All you need is a phone or a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone AND a weekly email invitation from Pat Riddell with the link to follow. (Reach out to her at priddell91@gmail.com if you're not receiving these invitations.)

Please check your email inbox on Saturday to make sure you’ve received your worship link for worship the following day. This will give you time to be in touch with Pat if you need help. If you’re running late on Sunday morning and run into trouble, please reach out to a fellow church member who may be able to forward their Zoom link or help you troubleshoot.

Be the Church, wherever you are
working for the common good of the whole
as faithful followers of Christ
in community with one another and others.

Invitation to Pre-Worship Conversation This Sunday

You are invited to join Aljean Greenacre in a pre-worship discussion this Sunday, June 27th by reading the article below. Please look for a separate Zoom link for the pre-worship discussion on Friday. As a reminder the pre-worship discussion will go from 9:50am to 10:20am.

"Generosity begets generosity".

Henri Nouwen had an open and Spirit-filled attitude that looked to 'relatedness' with people.

Henri was speaking to an audience about fundraising as ministry. All the copies of his books had been sold out in the lobby of where he was speaking. At noon he went to a bookstore to get more copies. On his way to his car, a young man approached him asking for money to get him home to France. Henri was a Spirit-filled type who always tried to find "relatedness" with people, told the young man to get in the car and go with him. Then he asked him to tell about himself.

On the way to the bookstore, the young man told of his unsuccessful attempt to get a hoped-for position in Canada and how he couldn't get home because he didn't have enough money. When Henri got his books, they returned to the meeting. Henri gave the young man two hundred dollars and told him to let him know when he got back to France.

Later that day after his lecture the booksellers in the lobby gave Henri an envelope thanking him for his kindness. Inside was a card with a thank-you note and two hundred dollars.

Another author, Jane Fisler Hoffman says, "Covenant is recognizing that all members stand in accountability to a will and purpose beyond our own way. Covenant yields to a way of life that is always on the move summoned beyond our preferred way station when we move beyond our comfort zone in faithful obedience."

We covenant or commit to a vision and mission called into what Henri Nouwen calls a spiritual relatedness or relationship with needs and resources. Asking for money to participate in our visions and mission for the Kingdom speaks in the name of God in whom our security is secure, he says.

Henri says that through relationship we can become generous with time, money, and concern. We offer fellowship, friendship, prayer, peace, love and ministry to those in need.

Lastly, "If we raise funds for the creation of a community of love, we are helping God build the Kingdom and we're doing what we're supposed to do as Christians — be a ministry."

Inreach/Outreach Meeting

In an effort to get back on a monthly schedule, an Inreach/Outreach meeting is planned for this Friday, June 25th at 11:30 AM.

Come and enjoy a delicious lunch with some really nice people at Camp Robber on South Townsend (across from Home Depot). They will be set up at a private table for us in the lounge. On the agenda this month is planning the all-church picnic and discussing the possibility of applying for another "In the Mud" grant from the Rocky Mountain Conference.

Fresh new ideas are always welcome, so please let Mary or Joani know about any agenda items you'd like to bring to the table.

What's It All About?

Our mission is to spread love and support our community.

"Inreach" focuses on ways that we can take care of one another at Community Spirit UCC, including a birthday card ministry, meals for shut-ins, potlucks, and other opportunities to get to know each other better and grow in our faith.

"Outreach" addresses ways that we can serve the community, such as road cleanups, food bank collections, hygiene kits for the homeless shelter, and other projects. In the spirit of learning "the habit of giving", we try to provide at least one opportunity each month for our congregation to participate in an outreach project that makes life better for others.

All-Church Picnic in July!

You are invited to an all-church potluck on Wednesday, July 14th at 5:30 PM.

Your Inreach/Outreach Team is busy planning it and will share further details in upcoming weeks. For now, be sure to save the date.

It will be great to see everyone in person!

Wholeness & Wellness Weekend at LaForet

August 27-29, 2021

A quiet space, a settled body, and a calm mind allow room for what is important in life to float to the surface.

Make time to connect to nature, your body, your deep self, and community. Storytelling, yoga, mindfulness, hiking, nutrition, creative expression, connection to nature, and even massage will all be options in this retreat designed for your refreshment and re-centering. Offering hosts in each area will provide you many choices of experiences to help restore your wholeness and wellness.

Open to everyone; this is an intentionally diverse, innovative event, aiming to engage people of all religions or none, of every background and path. All are welcome. To deepen into the genuine culture of welcome, Wholeness & Wellness Weekend will engage a post-colonial potluck approach, meaning that the experience is richer when everyone has something to bring, and the structure and role of leadership and participants will be less traditional and top-down, and more communal. Rather than a keynote or main event, our hosts and participants will honor one-another's offerings and expertise.

In light of nature playing an essential role in human wellness and spiritual wholeness, we will also aim to spend abundant time outdoors, and also make this event as green and sustainable as we can reasonably achieve. At times, we may ask for those who are able to embrace the rustic and the re-usable, always with participants’ comfort in mind.
