ANNOUNCING GID'S SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM

We are excited to announce the first issue of GID's Sustainability Newsletter, which provides an update on the key initiatives from our newly implemented company-wide Sustainability Program. The Program is focused on increasing value and improving the efficiency of our portfolio by minimizing energy, water, and waste consumption; reducing operating costs; improving occupant health; and creating better living spaces.

MEET THE TEAM

GID established an inter-department Sustainability Team comprised of Matt Bernstein (Portfolio & Asset Management), Mark Conopka (Portfolio & Asset Management), Lauren Beeman (Acquisitions), Micheal Ferguson (Windsor), Susan Kamiskas (Windsor), Spencer Howell (Urban Development Group), and Matthrew Tisdale (Legal). In partnering with Verdani Partners we receive the resources of an experienced sustainability team, led by Daniele HortonJeff Dunbar, Scott Lemoine, and Mohit Shah. The Verdani Partners team is a resource for our entire company and will support our programs remotely from San Diego, California.

NEW INTERNAL & EXTERNAL SUSTAINABILITY SITES

To learn more about GID's Sustainability Program please visit our new internal Sustainability site on GID's intranet, where employees can obtain important information on the latest sustainability policies, green building trends, LEED resources, sustainability tools, and templates.

Additionally, the GID corporate website has been updated with a brand new sustainability page, which outlines the vision, mission, goals & targets, and overall strategy of our new program.  

LEED GREEN ASSOCIATE & EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

A free, online training for the LEED Green Associate exam is available to all GID employees through Verdani Partners. Please send an email to sustainability@gid.com to receive registration instructions along with the free promotional code for GID employees.

Additional sustainability training materials should be available soon including the following topics: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Waste Management, Indoor Air Quality, Tenant Engagement, and much more!

2016-2017 PRIORITIES

Our 2016-2017 strategy includes the following priority areas: 
  • Implement GID's new sustainability policies company-wide
  • Benchmark buildings on ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and collect utility data   
  • Provide educational resource materials to our employees and residents 

At this time, our most fundamental task is to track energy and water consumption, as well as waste diversion at all properties. This will be used to calculate ENERGY STAR scores for certification and support our reporting and overall sustainability goals.
