Help Support Our Local Parks
(and get a tax write-off while you're at it)

A Message from Stefanie Givens, TMPF Board President

Every New Year's Day, my family and I make it a priority to explore one of our local parks. Whether we are walking (or snowshoeing!) on a park trail, or visiting a playground, there is no better way to usher in a fresh new year.  When we first moved to Reno nearly ten years ago, we were most impressed by the quantity and quality of our local parks. I had no idea at the time that years later I would be a founding member and Board Chair of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation.

Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is truly a grassroots effort - born from a small group of park enthusiasts who were disheartened by the reductions in park funding and services to the community. The recession was not kind to our local park departments. Yet with a growing population, these parks are more important than ever, providing accessible and nearby public places to recreate and enjoy time spent with friends and family in the outdoors.

Since receiving our non-profit status earlier this year, TMPF has accomplished so much. From the Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge to the Parks Rephotography Project, we have already engaged hundreds of community members in learning about, and becoming better stewards of our parks.

Our accomplishments are many, but there is much work to do. In 2014, we will strengthen and expand our programs and partnerships, continue to engage the community in advocating for our parks, and do our part to make parks an integral part of all our lives. We hope you will continue to support our efforts by becoming a member now. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please call Executive Director Nathan Daniel at 775-453-0698 or visit our website at www.tmparksfoundation.org.

Best wishes for the New Year,

Stefanie Givens
