Upcoming MOBI Colloquium in Munich

The first stage of the MOBI Grand Challenge (MGC) has come to an end. The winners will be announced at the MOBI Colloquium on February 14-15th, an invite-only event hosted by the BMW Group at the BMW IT Headquarters in Munich. The first part of the three-year MGC series – a four-month long tournament – will close with a demonstration of potential uses of Blockchain in coordinating vehicle movement and improving transportation in urban environments.

This event will serve as a forum to advance the adoption of Blockchain technology in the mobility sector and as a celebration of the accomplishments of the participants from the first round of the MGC. Stay tuned for updates on the next stage of the MGC series following the Colloquium.

In the News

Blockchain
As automakers realize the importance of investing in emerging technologies to remain competitive, consortiums like MOBI give automotive and tech organizations the opportunity to work together on emerging Blockchain technology.
Is China a blockchain-powered nation? The country has the right building blocks to make huge advancements in the blockchain world. The question is less of a how and more of a when.
Don't overlook the potential for blockchain to improve supple chain management. The decentralized, immutable, and fully-accessible nature of records stored on the blockchain can bring clarity to a number of current issues in the supply chain industry.
Autonomous Mobility
Watch out for your next Amazon prime shipment via home delivery robot. The e-commerce giant has started road testing autonomous rovers as a new home delivery option. Meet Amazon Scout.
Shared autonomous vehicle (AV) pilots are coming to a city near you. At least eight U.S. cities have promised to launch new pilot low-speed AV programs in 2019. Was your city one of them?
Some might call it a moonshot, others say an impossibility. Toyota, Japan's largest carmaker, wants to begin selling autonomous vehicles in about one year from now. Who's to say if they will succeed or fail?
Britain adds their name to the autonomous driving race. The country's Department for Transport stated that they are on track to have fully self-driving vehicles on UK roads by 2021.
The fourth technological revolution is fast approaching. Japan's new "Society 5.0" initiative plans on harnessing their technological innovations to create a "super-smart" society. They hope this will become a model for the rest of the world.
In the hopes of ushering in the next era of mobility as soon as 2022, Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen AG have announced an expanded partnership. Together they plan on focusing on electric and autonomous vehicle research and development.
Amazon stops dabbling in autonomous vehicle research and charges head on into the race. This past week they announced an investment in autonomous tech developer Aurora and since Amazon is the company with the largest logistics operations on the planet, they might have something to say.
Electronic Vehicles (EV)
If the issue of vehicle charging deterred people from buying an EV, Volkswagen is here to new community. They recently revealed their mobile charging station concept that claims to hold up to 360 kWh – five times the capacity of a base-level Tesla Model S.
All public buses in Shenzhen, China went electric by the end of 2017. Taxis will soon follow suit. This month the city announced 99 percent of their more than 21,000 cabs are now powered by batteries.
Smart Cities
Still not 100% sure what we mean by 'smart cities' or the 'cities of tomorrow'? As the reality of these cities approaches, here is a short syllabus to guide you on the history and potential of smart cities.
By 2030, more than 60% of the people on earth will reside in cities. Investing in smart cities has the potential to produce tangible economic benefits from increasing individual quality of life to reducing gas consumption.

Upcoming Events

Our CEO, Chris Ballinger, will be speaking at the MOVE Conference in London on February 12-13th on a panel: Decentralizing the transportation industry and a roundtable discussion: Bringing blockchain to the mobility supply chain. The conference will bring together movers and shakers in the mobility sphere for two days of exhibits and speakers.

MOBI will be presenting at ICAO Blockchain Aviation Summit and Exhibition which is scheduled to take place on April 2-4, 2019 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The summit is a joint aviation and technology event hosted by the General Civil Aviation Authorities (GCAA) with the theme Blockchain: Unlock the Potential to support new ICAO Blockchain related initiatives to address ICAO Strategic Objectives and UN Sustainable Development Goals. The three-day summit will bring together States, industry, partners and thought leaders to introduce and explore the innovations in Blockchain technology that support sound, safe, secure and economically-viable civil aviation systems. We will gather along with Blockchain solution providers and business leaders seeking to use Blockchain as an enabling technology in aviation to promote cooperation, collaboration, knowledge, and information sharing between Blockchain thought leaders, the aviation industry, government agencies, and nations. We would like to highlight this event to our community and encourage them to participate in this great event.
