I will never tire of stating my long-standing view that this is the best time in history to be a teacher. Inspiration for our lessons is just around the corner, or, rather, one click away. In this issue of my newsletter, read about the eagle-hunters of Mongolia, watch some footage about them, discover why this is actually a misleading title and play a vocabulary game that I designed just for you, using certain tools, available on the web for free.
If you want to design such tools and publish them on YOUR site for FREE, all you have to do is enrol on one of my seminars. The last seminar before the summer vacations is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 29, 18:00 - 21:00.
On the downside:
This has been a hectic, stressful week, culminating with the new decision by an inept government to impose a 23% VAT on language school services. This was seen as a hostile move, one meant to deal a blow to the middle- and low-income family that looks on us to provide reliable foreign-language education. A hostile move for foreign language school owners and teachers as well, who expect to see their business drop as fewer and fewer clients will be able to afford this increase in their fees.
On the upside:
I wouldn’t lose my sleep over this. In my time as a teacher, I have seen incompetent governments (an area in which this country seems to be doing particularly well) come and go. But we are still here. Strong, motivated, skilled, enlightened, knowledgeable professionals with an eye to the future and one single priority: the multidimensional education of our students, an area in which WE seem to be doing particularly well. Therefore, think positive but at the same time be strong and prepared for some turmoil.
Educate, entertain, enjoy, innovate, share and don’t forget to be awesome.
