Welcome to our newsletter,
"The Pride"

In time the printed copies will phase out, as more people access the weekly news and match reports online.  If you have something to announce to the Club via this format, contact Brad Wake

Weekend Games – Well I am happy to report that the Women Promotion 1 team has mathematically made it into the Premier League 1 Grade next year. This well drilled skillful team played brilliantly to beat Aquinas Reds considered the favorites on Sunday with a 4 - 0 win. The professional and clinical approach to this game puts our ladies in a win win situation. Coach Blake Burrows was very happy with not only the result but with the way our ladies played it was a text book game played to the game plan to the very end. Don't miss the final game in these promotion/Relegation contest Thursday Evening 7:00PM 12 Sept against South West Strikers.
While the magnitude of this achievement sinks in I am proud to say that MCHC will be a Super Club Status in season 2014 with the Top Men and Women both playing in the Premier 1 Division or known as the Melville Toyota League. This is an achievement which has never been reached before in Club History. Well done to our Melville Ladies and do we dare to look forward to our Men and Women looking at finals next year. For full timetable of promotion games/ladder click here.
Our Mens 2s team demonstrated their dominance in the grade by regaining their Mojo with a convincing 6 - 3 win against a very strong team. Unfortunately our 3s men went down with a gutsy 2 - 1 loss.
As we draw closer to the end of season there are still major games and major club events to take place. We look forward to you taking part in these events or official occasions.. If you wish to become a volunteer please do not hesitate to make yourself known to any committee member. We need your help to support this mighty club.

AGM – Please be advised the MCHC AGM will be held Monday Evening 16 Sept, 2013 – 6:30 PM. If you cannot make it nominate a proxy. This will be in the club rooms.  Click Here for Agenda, Proxy and 2012 minutes.

Presentation Night – Please be advised the senior presentation night will be held at Tomkins on Swan 4th October. Tickets are now available at the Bar $80.00 each. This will be a Gala Event do not miss it during this important year.

As always please support your teams who are in finals over the next weeks. They have worked hard to get there along with their coaches and managers to represent our club at this key time.
I wish you all a very good week of finals and look forward to seeing you at Melville Hockey soon.

Gary Bowater - Melville City Hockey Club – President.

Hockey over Summer

There are two options for playing hockey over summer – Summer 7s and Indoor Hockey.
Summer 7s is a very social competition, with groups of friends/winter team-mates getting together to form teams, and play games on the Melville turf on weekday afternoons from mid-October until Christmas.  Please see the club website for further information.
(Pending information on Indoor Hockey from HWA). We believe that the games will be on Friday nights, at Lumen Christie College in Gosnells. Indoor is a fast, fun, five-a-side game played on a hard surface, with wooden boards along the sidelines to keep the ball in play. Hitting and raised balls are not allowed at all. It is great for improving stickwork and tackling skills.
For more information, and to register your interest in playing, please see the club website.

Junior News

Well, it’s hard to believe we are almost at the end of another season. Games are over for most teams, but our J11/12A Girls and J11/12A Boys (who finished the season as Minor Premiers) both play semi-finals this Friday night at PHS, and we wish them the best of luck as they try to make it through to the Grand Final. Well done to the J7/8A Girls and the J7/8B Girls who both made it through to the semi-finals but were unfortunately defeated on the weekend, and special congratulations to several of our J5/6 teams, who finished in the top four of their grade.
The Junior Wind-up and trophy presentation will be held at the club on Sunday 22 September, starting at 10.00am.  As well as presenting team trophies, there are several club awards presented and we acknowledge “Games Played” milestones. Club Yearbooks are given out to all players, and many teams take the opportunity to also give out team photos and thank their coaches and managers.

State Team Nominations (U15 & U18 - 2014)

Due to the U15 and U18 National Championships being moved earlier in the year for 2014 (they have been moved to April), the selection process for the U15 State team will change for next year. Instead of Regional Championships being used for selection, there will be selection trials held in October this year for U15 (and December for U18). Players must nominate themselves – the club has no involvement in the process. A further change in the process is that WA, along with three other states, will be sending TWO teams per age-group to the U13 and U15 National Championships in 2014, giving  more players the chance to represent their state in these age groups. All eligible players will shortly receive an e-mail from the club with more detailed information, or you can look on the Hockey WA website. (U13 selection will continue to be based on Regional Championships – players in this age-group do not have to do anything until next season.)
