Welcome Summer!

Happy Summer Kids & Art Community!

June is upon us, and our team at K&A are excited to continue our weekly hospital workshops at Stanford LPCH and UCSF Mission Bay. During the summer, we often find that our numbers increase and our reach extends further as siblings and other family members on break accompany patients to their clinic appointments. Lucky for us, our wonderful Program Managers (shout out to Rachel and Caroline!) have it all under control with the help of our tremendous artists and volunteers. Somehow, they always seem to have an endless assortment of dynamic projects to engage the patients and families.

We are incredibly grateful to our longtime volunteer, Kush, for creating this beautiful video of our Destination Workshop at Google in May
. It is so meaningful to hear directly from patients, parents, artists and volunteers about their experiences as part of the K&A community. We hope you enjoy it too and will maybe consider joining us for a workshop in the future.

K&A Youth Advocate Highlight

We at Kids & Art are so impressed and moved by the passion and drive of young people who want to make a difference in their communities and in the world. Olivia, a longtime supporter of K&A, hosted a workshop with artist Krytzia Dadboub, to support K&A and to educate others on how they can make a difference in their communities.

The art kits put together by Olivia and her friends were recently brought to our workshop at UCSF Mission Bay, where they were a huge hit with all of the families in the clinic waiting rooms. Thank you so much, Olivia, for your leadership, generosity and heart!

Exhibition at Philz Coffee, Downtown Burlingame - 6/8 to 8/10
Being able to share the creativity and imagination of the patients and families we support is a truly joyful part of our work at Kids & Art. These young artists feel a tremendous sense of pride when their works are exhibited. Be sure to stop by our local Philz Coffee to grab a drink and view some art!

We are so grateful to the businesses and corporations that have partnered with us to empower these young creators. For Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, we are looking for more local businesses to support our mission through sponsoring a workshop, housing a donation box, exhibiting artwork, or hosting a give back event in honor of K&A. Please connect with us at to share ideas and contacts.
Redwood City Art on the Square
Our longtime advisor, Davina Moussa, her daughter Evie, and K&A supporter, Maureen Martin, manned a booth at this year's Redwood City Art on the Square to share about K&A's mission and work. Thank you, Davina, Evie and Maureen, and also to Redwood City's Art on the Square for your support.

Research = Evidence = Increased Services
If you are a pediatric oncology family or connected to one, please share this link to a research study conducted by one of our K&A parents, Dawn.

Here's what she had to say: "I am the mother of a survivor who had a long battle with cancer. Throughout that process I realized that there was a need for more supportive and rehab services for these kids from the start of treatment. I am now working on my doctorate with a goal of increasing services through research and program development."
Author of the Month
A member of our K&A community or a like-minded supporter of our mission to heal through the arts
Lori Butterworth is an advocate for children, dedicated to ensuring that every child with a life-threatening illness receives compassionate, family-centered care that allows them to live well and die with dignity. In 1998, Lori founded Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services to provide emotional, practical, financial and bereavement support to families of children with cancer.

We are incredibly honored to have Lori as our June Author of the Month. Read her thoughts about the role of art in healing in our blog here.

Ways to Support
Volunteer: K&A would not be able to accomplish our mission and impact so many without the support of volunteers. There are many opportunities to engage with us:
  • Hospital Workshops
  • Destination Workshops
  • Representing K&A at Events (i.e. Palo Alto May Fete, Redwood City Art on the Square)
  • Exhibition Art Hanging
