  A      B     EVEN

Falls Church City Public Schools and Offices will operate on a 2-hour delay, Friday, February 1st. Day Care will open at 9 am. Due to the Winter Weather Advisory in effect beginning at 6 am, the delay is needed to ensure safe travels of students and staff due to the threat of snow in the middle of this morning's commute on top of already frozen road surfaces.

Kicking off Black History Month with a Speech

Mt Daniel school logoAfter reading and studying several books about Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights activists, this first-grade class is writing and taping their speeches about their dreams. With Mr. Daugherty's help setting up the equipment, the students learned how to use a green screen and became risk-takers while sharing their goals with the class, in hopes of making the world a better place.

Hands-On Fun at STEAM Night

Thomas Jefferson school logoOn a brisk night, the lure of STEAM activities drew a crowd to TJ to enjoy a great variety of activities all throughout the building. The gym had Spheros above and drones, many chances to build and learn, while the cafeteria had demonstrations by GM's Robotics team along with a great variety of activities from building a solar system to a straw rocket. Upstairs in the library, there was coding with Scratch. In the Art room students could make bead bracelets in binary code, and in the fifth grade wing there were paper airplanes and the VTech Thinkabit crew. What an engaging evening for all who attended!
