GMHS participates in the Early Identification Program (EIP) for students who will be the first generation of their families to go to college. In collaboration with George Mason University, the program offers supports including a summer academy and Saturday workshops. Seventh grade students are nominated to be in the program. They can get more information about the requirements and the application from Henderson counselors Tara Filmyer and Matt Sowers. Students and their families can find out more through an information session planned for early March -- details to come.
Yesterday, the local ABC news affiliate featured GMHS alums during the 5:00 p.m. hour. Both Marjorie Lopez Morillo left and Katherine Chiariright were among the GMHS students who went all the way through FCCPS's collaborative program from 8th grade to HS graduation, and are now enrolled at GMU.
Opening Night is Thursday Aladdin's Huge Cast features Great Voices
The actors in the annual middle school musical are putting the finishing touches on their performances ahead of Thursday night's opening. The singing is tremendous including by Aladdin and Jasmine above.The three night run will be held in the George Mason HS auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. All are welcome to purchase tickets through the MEHMS PTA's website for the fabulous show. Tickets will be sold online until 5:00 p.m. the day of the show and, if there are extras, they will be available at the door.
This first grade classroom is beginning their opinion writing unit. The students each brought a different collection from home and judged which object from the collection was their favorite. Then they set about writing a persuasive essay about the why's behind their choice.

Student/Parent Band Information Night
Beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday night parents and students can get information and enjoy some terrific music while they learn about the band class offerings in the schools. There will be a collaborative MEH/GM band performance at 7:00 p.m. followed by an optional parent break-out session to ask questions and hear the presentation. The open concert clinic will continue in the Henderson cafetorium until 9:00 p.m. The FCCPS Band Boosters are providing refreshments. See the flyer here for the evening's schedule.

Semi-Final Play for Girls and Boys
The Girls tip-off at 6:00 p.m. against Central, and the Boys' game follows at approximately 7:30 p.m. against Madison. Both Mustangs teams are taking their excellent District records into the post-season as the top seeds in their brackets. Come tonight to the GM Main Gym to see both games for one $5 ticket. No passes accepted in post-season.
