Latest Geographical News

Autumn has been a very busy time for EUROGEO. In this newsletter of the European Association of Geographers (EUROGEO) find out how you can participate at a climate change meeting to be held as part of COP21, a high level event at the French National Assembly, the GeoCapabilities and I-Use Projects. There are free resources on MDGs, open data e-learning courses from FOSTER, a UNEP MOOC, student competition and Eye on Earth update. There are links to many other geo-news items from the last few weeks.

Climate Change COP 21 

EUROGEO will run a side event at the COP21 negotiation talks in December in Paris. The meeting will take place as part of the French civil society village on Thursday 10 December 2015 from 13.30-15.00. Intercultural Dialogue  

At the French National Assembly on 15th October, EUROGEO participated in a high level meeting presenting the InterCultural Dialogue in facing Environmental Challenges (ICDEC) initiative. The event was hosted by  the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF), in partnership with the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
The f
orum showcased the work being carried out in the field of climate change and intercultural dialogue. Future high impact initiatives were highlighted, taking into account that the UNFCCC COP 21 will be held in Paris in December 2015 and that Morocco will host COP 22 in 2016. Find out more

As a result of the event, a forum to enable the exchange of information and best experiences on intercultural dialogue and climate change issues will be established. Find out more

MDG Research: Free Access  

As the United Nations sets out its new post-2015 Development agenda, we reflect on the success of the Millennium Development Goals. Student Paper Competition 

Frugeo-Geography Research Initiative and EUROGEO-European Association of Geographers have joined together to launch a student academic paper competition. We are giving students a publication opportunity to students to participate in our project free of charge and the potential chance to win an award. The competition is open to any topics with the following keywords: locality, sustainability, environmental/global issues, recycling, upcycling, and reuse. Deadline 15 January 2016. Find out more

EUROGEO is a stakeholder in the Eye on Earth initiative advocating for open environmental data for sustainable development.The Eye on Earth summit, held in October 2015, addressed the challenge of identifying & delivering data to track the Sustainable Development Goals. Find out more

Human Geography Stories

FOSTER e-learning courses

The FOSTER Programme on open data has announced the release of their first set of e-learning courses. The self-learning courses focus on the topics “Open Access in Horizon2020”, “Repository compatibility with Horizon2020” and “Open Science to Research”. Find out more

Ongoing Projects

GeoCapabilities: EUROGEO is a partner in the GeoCapabilities Lifelong Learning Programme Project. The key objective of the project is to create teacher education materials that help teachers to develop as curriculum leaders through a 'capabilities' approach. As part of this activity we provide you with the latest project news.  
The I-Use Project has created a training course for teachers about the use of Statistics in different secondary school curriculum subject areas. The project deals with misleading statistics, visualising data and the sustainable development goals. Visit the I-Use Web site to see more.  
EUROGEO is partner in a new Erasmus+ project called GI Learner> this aims to develop learning lines in the use of GIS in Secondary education. It follows work from previous projects like iGuess and digital-earth
