The last month has brought many excellent opportunities for EUROGEO members and geoethusiasts to network and exchange their experience. In this newsletter, a reminder about EUROGEO 2016 in Malaga, an invitation for IPGESTE Conference, GI Forum and AlpWeek is shared. Moreover, we include information about publications in International Journal of Digital Earth, Geography and Health as well as ISDE 9 Online. AlpWeek: 

Alps & People Living culture

The manifold aspects of the relationship between the Alps and the people who live, work and recreate there will be the main focus of the fourth edition of the AlpWeek on 11-15 October 2016 in Grassau/Achental (Germany). People in the Alps are facing huge future challenges and at the same time, they are the key players to cope with them. The AlpWeek intends to share existing Alpine experiences in order to find new solutions for the future that are specific to the alpine region(s) and respectful of its socio-cultural and natural heritage. In order to make visible the variety of approaches and and discuss sustainable development options, the AlpWeek 2016 invites to a broad and diversified dialogue focusing on three main fields of action: demography, culture and quality of life. ISDE 9 online

We are pleased to announce that the Proceedings of the 9th ISDE Symposium (Halifax, Canada, 2015) have now been published online by IOP Science Publishing.

They are published as Volume 34(1) (2016) in IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science — an open access, peer-reviewed journal. Specifically, the ISDE9 Proceedings are located at http://iopscience.iop.org/issue/1755-1315/34/1 and are free to download.

EUROGEO 2016: deadline extended

As a result of several requests, the deadline for the submission of abstracts to the EUROGEO conference in Malaga, September 29-30 2016 has been extended until July 10th. The early-bird rate will also be extended until this date. More informaiton

Active Citizen 

What makes an active citizen? Is voting in elections enough? Or does it mean volunteering every week and only buying fair trade? Volonteurope has teamed up with European Civic Forum to answer this question, but they need your help to do it by completing a 10-minute survey. More information

Call for Papers: International Journal of Digital Earth

The IJDE is the official Journal of the International Society for Digital Earth announce a Call for papers for their Special Issue on Innovation in Geoprocessing for a Digital Earth. This is a current challenge for the environment, mobility, energy, demographics etc. related to Digital Earth and potentially addressed by online geoprocessing. More information.

GI Learner


GI Learner explores the use of GIS and GIscience in secondary schools. GI Learner has undertaken and published a review of spatial thinking research and learning lines in high school education. The project will be running workshops at GI_Forum in Salzburg in July.. More information - Twitter

SMILE Web site has been launched.
EUROGEO is partner in an Erasmus+ education project called SMILE. SMILE is Soft Mobility Integrated Learning in English - through sustainable transport in Primary Schools. The project aims to develop learning materials for use in non-formal situations.
