Human Rights @COP20

There are increasing calls for human rights protection for all in the 2015 climate agreement being discussed in Lima. Top UN experts call for human rights to be included in climate change talks at COP20. The experts highlight the fact that climate change threatens to undermine the protection of human rights, and that the UNFCCC has a crucial role in effectively protecting human rights for all. EUROGEO members have been active in this campaign at the Council of Europe and UNEP. More

GI-N2K Project Update

EUROGEO is a partner in the GI-N2K Project. The latest report (available from http://www.gi-n2k.eu/publications/) describes the situation in 2014 in 25 European countries with regard to the demand for and the supply of education and training in the domain of geographic information (“GI”) directed at i) organisations and companies with a need for geographic information competence sand ii)  organisations that offer teaching in this field. The results will used in subsequent work to create an improved version of the GIS&T BoK. More

GeoBalcanica

Call: Observing Mountains

Mountain Research and Development is planning a Focus Issue on “Observing Mountains and Sharing Knowledge”. The speed, nature, and dimension of changes in mountains pose complex challenges for mountain societies and mountain ecosystems. MRD is seeking into processes of observation and knowledge sharing on social-ecological systems in mountains. Full papers are due by 28 Feb 2015. More

Global Environmental Goals

During COP 20 UNEP released the Global Environmental Goals (GEG) tracker Web site. These are related to the multitude of internationally-agreed environmental goals and objectives, which are part of outcome documents of relevant United Nations summits and conferences, resolutions of the General Assembly, decisions of other global intergovernmental conferences, multilateral environmental agreements and decisions of their governing bodies. EUROGEO is a stakeholder in the "EyeonEarth" open data initiative. More

EUROGEO Conference 2015

The 2015 EUROGEO Annual Meeting and Conference will be organised in conjunction with and hosted by the Turkish Association of Geographers (TAG), in Ankara on 21-22 May 2015. Issue 3 of the European Journal of Geography has been published and is free to download. The Journal now on Scopus, s based on the European Association of Geographers’ goal to make European Geography a worldwide reference and standard.
