Summer is slowly coming to an end. In this newsletter information about the first autumn geoevents - a convergence of mapping events in Brussels. As the new school year has just started in many countries we remind you about the launch of a brand new GeoCapabitilies site as well as the School on the Cloud conference. Global MIL Week

We call on geographers and geographical organisations to register for and raise awareness of geographic information during the UNESCO 5th Global Media Information Literacy (MIL) Week. This will take place from 31 October to 5 November. The theme is ‘New Paradigms for Intercultural Dialogue’. Register at Organizations can use social media to raise awareness about MIL in civil society and join the Global Alliance for Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL). More information

GeoCapabilities Launch

GeoCapabilities launches its site for developing teachers as curriculum leaders. It includes training resources, curriculum ideas and leadership materials for secondary schools. More information

Education Cloud conference

You are invited to participate in the School on the Cloud conference on November 18 in Brussels. School on the Cloud is the European network that explores new dynamic Cloud-based ways in education. Register now. More information

OSGeo Live v.10 Available

Version 10.0 of the OSGeo-Live GIS software collection has been released by the Open Source Geospatial Foundation. This is free software for students, educators and academics. It is a self-contained bootable DVD, USB flash drive and Virtual Machine, pre-installed with robust open source geospatial software. It includes more than 50 quality geospatial Open Source applications installed and pre-configured, free world maps and sample datasets, the project overview and step-by-step. Quickstart for each application, a lightning presentation of all applications, along with speaker's script and translations to multiple languages. Download details at More information

Ocean Literacy Survey Help 

We are asking for your help in developing the International Ocean Literacy Survey. This is a 16-language, collaborative effort to measure progress in building global Ocean Literacy. If you have access to 16-18 year old students, you can play a critical role in this spirited and entirely volunteer effort.

Sea Change Update

Sea Change is an EU-funded Horizon 2020 project which aims to create a fundamental change in the way European citizens view their relationship with the sea and empower them to be Ocean Literate citizens. Mobilisation activities target European citizens across different areas of society including education and governance. YouthMetre seeks to bring young people closer to policy making about Youth across Europe. The aim is to create tools that will empower youth to engage with policy makers and challenge policy developments.

GI Learner

GI Learner explores the use of GIS and GIscience in secondary schools. GI Learner has undertaken and published a review of spatial thinking research and learning lines in high school education. The project will be running a workshop at EUROGEO 2016 in Malaga. More information - Twitter
