Bull Run Treatment 2021 Milestones

As we close out 2021, we want to thank everyone who has helped us take big strides towards a more reliable, cleaner, safer water future. From the project team to our community partners -- that means you!

Some of the program milestones we've achieved this year include:

Secured a long-term, low-interest Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act loan to help fund the Bull Run Treatment Projects.
Completed the Basis of Design Report for the planned water filtration facility that will be a key component of a more resilient water system.
Received Oregon Health Authority approval of the Bull Run Filtration Pilot Study Report as part of our compliance agreement to have filtration online by Sept. 2027.
Wrapping up construction of the Improved Corrosion Control Treatment facility that will help make our water less corrosive to lead found in some home plumbing starting in April 2022.
Invested more than $3 million to minority- and women-owned firms to help build Improved Corrosion Control Treatment.
Collaborated with the Urban Indigenous Engagement Circle to improve current and future relationships with urban Indigenous communities.

January 2022 Neighbor Information Meeting

On Jan. 13, we'll hold an online meeting to update community members on design progress for the Bull Run Filtration Project. In accordance with state, county, and city guidance, we’ll hold this meeting using Zoom to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.

Date: Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022

Time: 6–7 p.m.

About the Bull Run Treatment Projects

To comply with federal Safe Drinking Water Act regulations, the Portland Water Bureau is planning a water filtration facility, new pipelines, and an improved corrosion control treatment facility. The Bull Run Treatment Projects will provide consistent, high-quality drinking water that meets today’s water quality standards, helps address aging infrastructure concerns and future risks and regulations, and improves system resilience to help keep our water safe and abundant for generations to come.
