LOUISIANA CENTER FOR HEALTH EQUITY CALLS FOR BOYCOTT OF OCHSNER HEALTH AMID ALLEGATIONS OF DISPARATE TREATMENT OF BLACK PATIENTS

(Baton Rouge – January 14, 2021) On January 13th, the Louisiana Center for Health Equity (click link to view the recording) called for a boycott of Ochsner Health during a virtual meeting and press conference. The issues of concern with Ochsner Health to the Louisiana Center for Health Equity are 1) using our intellectual property, the Louisiana Center for Health Equity’s bold vision and LA40by2030 initiative without consulting us and 2) establishing another center in Louisiana with the same name “Center for Health Equity” and 3) allegations of Ochsner Health’s disparate treatment of Black patients with COVID 19 as detailed in an investigation by ProPublica, “Sent Home to Die.”

The meeting, “Louisiana’s Quest for Equitable Healthcare Continues” was set on the Medicaid expansion’s 5th year anniversary to commemorate Louisiana's progress and the quest for equitable healthcare amid the COVID 19 pandemic and allegations of disparate treatment of Black patients.
The Louisiana Center for Health Equity has been on a decade-long quest to improve access to equitable healthcare for all communities across the state. LCHE’s work continues on that path.

LCHE is most known for leading the advocacy for Medicaid expansion through our Campaign for Healthcare for Everyone that has had among the largest economic impacts throughout Louisiana in our recent history while stabilizing our healthcare system and affording over half a million people health insurance and coverage.
