Wait, what's the "D"?

In our first three issues of The Diversity Drop, we'll explore the D, the E, and the I, in DEI. Up first, Diversity.

Diversity comprises the breadth of identities held by all people. These specifically include internal dimensions gained at birth -- race and ethnicity, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, social background, and mental or physical capabilities—and external dimensions acquired through life -- socioeconomic status, language, culture, religious commitments, age, (dis)ability status, political perspective, paternal status, marital status, appearance, work experience, and more.

The Diversity Drop is a weekly newsletter developed and distributed by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University. The goal of the newsletter is to advance the knowledge and understanding that will enable us to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive department, institution, and profession.
