Sunday School - Digital Edition

Dear Christ Church Families,

I hope you're doing well and staying healthy. Today marks the kickoff of our Sunday School Program for the Fall. Out of a desire to keep our families as safe and healthy as possible, we are opting to maintain a Digital Sunday School during the Fall Semester, though we're also going to have monthly in-person gatherings for Sunday School Families, and our first in-person gathering will actually be next week. Plan on joining us in the back yard at the church next Sunday at 5:30 pm for some games, a bible lesson, and some sandwiches.

On weeks that we meet in person, we won't have a digital Sunday School, but other than that and a couple of holiday weekends, you can expect to receive a Digital Sunday School email every week this Fall! Feel free to pass these emails on to anyone who you think might appreciate having them.

This week's readings all center around the crossing of the Red Sea and God's work to deliver people from oppression. So join together with your family to participate in the activities below and hopefully grow together in knowledge, in relationship Christ, and in closeness as a family. As always, feel free to use as much or as little of the resources below as you'd like - whatever works best for you and your family!

Discussion Questions:

  • What do you think is the hardest thing about being a follower of God?
  • Even though the Israelite people are being rescued from slavery, they're not totally sure on where God is leading them. Do you ever worry about what's going to happen in your future? How do you deal with being worried about the future?
  • In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells Peter that we're supposed to forgive people even if they do something to hurt us 77 times. How do you forgive someone that hurts you? What does it mean to forgive?
  • Has someone ever forgiven you for something really big? Have you ever forgiven someone for something they did to you? How does it feel to forgive? How does it feel to be forgiven?
  • Whether it's leading the Israelites out of Egypt or teaching us to forgive, God is in the business of rescuing us from the things that enslave us. What things in your life do you think might have a hold on you? How can God deliver you from those things?
Applying it:
  • Do something nice for someone who has hurt you in the past. You don't have to tell them you're forgiving them if you don't want to, but practice being kind to people who might not deserve it. Also, if there's anybody that you may have hurt, find a friendly way to apologize to them.

That's it for this week! Thanks again for joining us and I look forward to seeing you next week!
