President's Message

Aloha Chamber members:

Chamber Week and the 2015 Legislative Session has officially kicked off. Your Chamber stands ready to serve as the “Voice of Business” at the Capitol. With new chairs, legislators and administration, we will remain vigilant and work proactively with our policymakers. Stay tuned for upcoming reports on the types of bills that are introduced.

We encourage you to join us for a Walk Around at the State Capitol tomorrow at 9:00 am at the Capitol Rotunda. Held as an annual event and one which continues to grow in numbers, the Chamber and a number of business organizations, including the Neighbor Island chambers, go door-to-door asking legislators for their support. Nothing beats a face-to-face meet and greet. Let’s show we are more than 100 strong in our effort to build a better business climate.

Additionally, as the military faces budget cuts and sequestration, the U.S. Army is hosting listening sessions in every state with a military presence. Hawaii’s turn will be on January 27 (Hale Koa) and 28 (Leilehua High School), both starting at 6:30 pm. These sessions will be one of our last chances to show our support before the Army decides where to cut. Leading up to these sessions, please sign the Keep Hawaii’s Heroes petition. Let’s show we are 40,000+ strong in support of our soldiers who fight for our freedom on a daily basis.

Laulima & mahalo,

Sherry Menor-McNamara

President & CEO

This event is the first in the Chamber’s 2015 Policy Series, which covers a wide range of public policy topics with Hawaii’s elected and community leaders.

Keep Hawaii's Heroes: Home Stretch

Thank you to all of the businesses who have stepped forward to support the "Keep Hawaii's Heroes" (KHH) campaign through financial support, as well as collecting petition signatures. This has been a wide-spread grassroots effort that has reached from the counters at Zippy's to Dot's Restaurant dining room; traversed the Internet with thousands of company, association and friend-to-friend emails and Facebook and Twitter posts; and involved hundreds of volunteers at community events across the islands. With your support, we've collected more than 19,000 signatures!

Please show your support online at keephawaiisheroes.org by January 26, 2015.

The Chamber and KHH team will also be at Tamarind Park, Friday, January 23, 11:30am to 1:30pm, collecting signatures as a part of Chamber Week’s Military Appreciation Event. Bring in 10 signatures and pick up your very own KHH t-shirt. Come by and join in the excitement!

FINALLY, please attend one or both of the Army's Listening Sessions

  • Tuesday, January 27, 2015, 6:30 - 9:00pm, Hale Koa Hotel, DeRussy Hall
  • Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 6:30 - 9:00pm, Leilehua High School cafeteria
