President's Message

Aloha Chamber members:

As mentioned in previous issues, we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Chamber Week, January 19-22, to engage members and the local business community in the legislative process and keep them informed of important issues and the Chamber’s business advocacy activities. We’re pleased to announce that The Hawaii Group is returning as Premier Sponsor for Chamber Week and we look forward to their partnership. Also joining us this year is the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii News Now, as our media partners. Governor David Ige is proclaiming next week as Chamber Week, as well.
Members and the business community are invited to participate in Chamber Week’s schedule of events and bring a collective voice of business to our state legislators. The Chamber will, once again, be introducing a pro-business package this session in support of lowering the cost of doing businesses, spurring economic development and investing in the future of Hawaii.
New this year is an educational forum, which will facilitate a conversation about the vision for Mauna Kea, in light of the recent TMT activity. To close Chamber Week, we are hosting a Member Appreciation reception at Ferguson's, one the week's sponsors.
To register for Chamber Week events, click here. For more information about the week’s activities or to become a sponsor, please contact our Director of Events, Cristina Barbarta.
Our state is at a critical junction with various issues that are changing the landscape of our economy and well-being, so now, more than ever, we need you to get involved and join us for Chamber Week.

Laulima & mahalo,
Sherry Menor-McNamara

President & CEO

MAC Announces Fellowship Program

In last week’s newsletter, President and CEO Sherry Menor-McNamara outlined a few initiatives that the Chamber will be developing this year in an effort to better engage members and create opportunities to promote and enhance their businesses.
One of the initiatives that is currently being developed is the Military Affairs Council (MAC) Fellowship Program. Through a number of conversations with the Chamber’s membership, it was found that a large number of members do not understand the significant role the MAC plays in supporting the continued presence of the military in Hawaii through advocacy, both in Hawaii and Washington, D.C.
In an effort to raise awareness about this work, the MAC will be offering fellowships to non-MAC Chamber members from May to September of this year. Although a small fee will be charged to cover the costs of various events, the fellowship will provide participants with access to MAC events, site visits and committee meetings during the four-month fellowship. This is sure to be a wonderful, productive opportunity for Chamber members to experience the MAC’s efficacy in action.
Information and application criteria will be distributed to interested organizations and businesses this spring. We hope you will join us. For more information about the MAC, click here.
