President's Message

Aloha from Washington, D.C.!

More than 100 participants representing 50+ companies and a variety of industries across the islands are here for our 3rd Annual Hawaii on the Hill!
We are pleased to, once again, partner with U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono and her team to showcase our great state in the nation’s Capitol. Following our welcome reception at the President Woodrow Wilson House, Senator Hirono coordinated a Legislative Policy Summit for participants to meet with representatives from various agencies, as well as some of her colleagues, to learn about services available to assist their businesses. Topics included small business development, international commerce, workforce development, health policy and agriculture. Participants also had a chance to meet with Senator Hirono during her “Talk Story,” as well as tour attractions.

Tonight, we will proudly showcase Hawaii to our Congressional leaders and other invitees. We anticipate more than 1,000 guests, each of whom will be greeted with a lei provided by THE Orchid Lei Company and Big Island Candies gift box. We've heard this is, by far, the largest “taste of" event on the Hill. The Aloha Spirit will be flowing and there will be no shortage of food and drinks! Most importantly, it will allow our participants to showcase the importance of Hawaii’s industries to the nation, as well as encourage commerce in Hawaii.
A list of all participants and sponsors can be found here.
A big thank you to all of participants; our Congressional leadership; State Honorary Chair Ron Kouchi; County Honorary Chairs, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa and Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho; Neighbor Island Chambers; the Chamber team; and the many people who provided support in making this initiative a success.

Laulima & mahalo,
Sherry Menor-McNamara

American Logistics Association Hosts Hawaii Expo, August 18

For nearly two decades, the American Logistics Association (ALA) Hawaii Expo has provided Hawaii businesses with the opportunity to showcase their products with the hope that the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) and the combined military exchanges will sell them in their domestic and international stores. This year’s expo is scheduled for August 16, 2016 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel in Honolulu.
The expo is the only time during the year that worldwide DeCA and combined military exchange buyers review Hawaii products. More importantly, this event gives local companies the opportunity to get professional feedback from buyers who can recommend market-tested suggestions for product enhancement, packaging and distribution.
While participating as a vendor at the expo does not guarantee that a company’s products will be selected, over 2,450 local products have been added to the Commissary shelves over the course of the expo’s 18 year history. Last year, 185 new items were selected for inclusion in the commissary system as a result of the event. This included products from 10 companies that had never done business with DeCA before. Additionally, the military exchanges added 15 new companies and 300 new line items to their stores.
