President's Message

Aloha Chamber Members:

As we become more active in pursuing economic opportunities and initiatives, chambers in other cities, states and countries are becoming interested in working with us and leveraging our role as chambers to provide opportunities for our memberships and business communities.

We are excited to announce that on Friday, the Chamber will enter into our first-ever sister-chamber relationship with Japan's Chigasaki Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Even more unprecedented, this agreement will be signed in conjunction with the C&C of Honolulu signing a sister-city agreement with Chigasaki. This historic move symbolizes our city's and the Chamber's collaborative effort in promoting commerce and showing that Hawaii is a place to do business.

Chigasaki, located an hour's drive from Tokyo, has approximately 3,400 businesses, 1,732 of which are members. Similar to our Chamber, more than 85% of their membership is small business. Chigasaki holds a strong affinity for Hawaii and our "Aloha Spirit," evidenced by their annual Aloha Market, Aloha Street, a World Invitational Hula Festival, an Aloha Congress and more. Chigasaki also imports a wide variety of Hawaii-made products.

This relationship ties in with our Manufacturing in Hawaii Initiative, which serves to facilitate and promote the "Made in Hawaii" brand locally and through export opportunities. We look forward to working with Chigasaki Chamber to ensure this partnership is not only symbolic, but one that will develop mutual business opportunities and returns for our membership.

The Chamber will continue to work on different approaches to promote the Hawaii brand and Hawaii as a place to do business. We welcome your ideas, as well.

Laulima & mahalo,

Sherry Menor-McNamara

President & CEO

Vote Yes for Hawaii’s Keiki
Learn more about investing in preschool for our keiki.

Q: Most people support preschool, won’t this amendment pass even if I don’t vote?
A: NO! We need your YES vote on November 4 to make preschool a reality for our keiki. Amendments to the state constitution must pass by a majority of the votes cast in the general election. Ballots left blank will count as a ‘no’ vote, so please be sure to mark YES.

Q: Will I be able to send my child to a preschool in my neighborhood or near where I work?
A: YES. Voting YES would allow the state to contract with local, licensed, high-quality community preschools across the state that choose to participate in the program.

MAC Welcomes Air Force Chief of Staff Civic Leaders to Hawaii

MAC members met with the 22 members of the Air Force Chief of Staff Civic Leaders program, who serve as unpaid advisors, and provide ideas and feedback to advise senior Air Force leaders about how missions can best be accomplished in their respective areas and public attitudes.  MAC Critical Infrastructure Chair Robin Campaniano serves as Hawaii’s representative to the group.

PACAF Change of Command

Welcome to General Lori Robinson, who took command of the Headquarters Pacific Air Forces (PACAF). PACAF activities spread over half the globe in a command that supports 45,000 Airmen serving principally in Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Alaska and Guam. Gen. Robinson is the first female four-star commander of combat forces and the second female four-star in the Air Force.

Mahalo and Aloha to General Herbert “Hawk” Carlisle, who will be moving to head Air Combat Command. A hui hou, Gen. Carlisle…until we meet again.
