President's Message

Aloha Chamber Members:

Although the legislative session has officially ended, work has not slowed down. The Chamber team has been working hard on various initiatives.

Last Friday, the Chamber joined Governor Abercrombie in a proclamation ceremony designating May as the 29th Annual Hawaii Military Appreciation Month. During the ceremony, we also recognized seven service members for their outstanding volunteer work in our community. It was truly a humbling moment and an honor to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for their contributions. Click here to see photos from our Facebook page.

On Monday, the Chamber partnered with HART and Move Oahu Forward on Industry Day, providing an opportunity for small businesses, Hawaii contractors, DBE firms and trade unions to learn more about job opportunities for Oahu’s rail project.

This week we sent an invitation to membership to “Hawaii on the Hill,” an initiative that brings Hawaii’s industries and specialties to Washington D.C. on July 22-23. For more information, click here.

Our 164th Annual Luncheon will be held on August 6. We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker will be Steve Case, AOL Founder and Chairman and CEO of Revolution. For sponsorship opportunities, click here. More information to follow.

We hope that you will take part in some of these exciting initiatives!

Laulima & mahalo,

Sherry Menor-McNamara
President & CEO

2014 Legislative Session Comes to a Close

The legislature has completed another session and, from the Chamber’s perspective, results were somewhat positive, considering what was on the table. Click here for details on bills that passed this session, including a few from our first-ever pro-business package.

All in all, we would like to thank those legislators who supported business and balanced all of the needs in our community.

Military Appreciation Month has Special Meaning in Hawaii

The U.S. is winding down 12 years of combat in the Middle East. But news of armed conflicts and internal strife continue to persist, shifting security concerns from one location to another.

However, we in the Pacific are most fortunate. Thanks in large part to the presence of forward deployed U.S. military forces, Asia Pacific nations are able to live in peace and stability, and develop geopolitical relationships that have stimulated unprecedented growth in local economies.

This has special meaning in Hawaii, as most residents have family roots and business ties in the vast regions of the Pacific, and are comforted in knowing that family, friends and associates are safe and protected by our troops.

Please thank our service men and women as we celebrate Military Appreciation Month of May.
